QUOTE (blackdog @ Jul 22 2011, 03:18 PM) Interesting that a school feel it needs to serve alcohol at events - is it really necessary? Does it set a good example to the pupils? Cheese and wine event without wine would be pretty pointless.

QUOTE (Nothing Much @ Jul 22 2011, 04:15 PM) This may be a bore, but I served time in a Shropshire School. I became a "Senior Student" and lived in a private part of the Headmaster's House. I think they didn't know what to do with me. We (about 6) had a beer allowance. Well that didn't include trying to dodge teachers in the towns pubs!
I still had to do studies, play rugby and fives, and cricket. Don't know how I managed it. Especially after a 6am cold bath and Divinity class before breakfast.
"Music in country churches" rely on a glass of Pinot, after all. ce Hope you don't mind me asking, but why were you banned from newbury.net?

Right an injustice - give Simon Kirby his allotment back!

I understand that this licence was simply to save admin costs of getting separate licences for events they might hold. The school will become accountable should it become a nuisance. I'd like to think the events should help finance the school as well. Meanwhile; NIMBYism is quite understandable where some many people have significant investments in their homes.

Does serving alcohol at events set a bad example? In my view this is good news as another venue for events will hopefully lead to more things happening in Newbury

QUOTE (JeffG @ Jul 22 2011, 07:57 PM) Those who call it a "quiet residential area" obviously haven't been woken up by the drunks going home from town at three o'clock in the morning. I doubt whether the school having a licence or not will have any noticeable effect. Do you live down that way yourself Jeff?
