QUOTE (Biker1 @ Sep 3 2012, 10:36 AM) If they haven't fixed the fault then you should be going back to them anyway as you seem to have paid out £100 for nothing. Yep I wll be, I've no doubt the ball joint needed replacing, but thy could have at least drven the car afterwards to make sure it had cured the problem. I think it is anti roll bar bushes which I told them and is a common fault with those cars. If I had a ramp I could check it myself.

QUOTE (andy1979uk @ Sep 3 2012, 10:32 AM) I won't be using them again, as they refused to give me the price of the ball joint on its own. I am now going to get the part price from pegeot, the book time for the repair and check they add up. If they don'nt I shall be asking for a refund. Although I applaud your attempts I think they would tell you to jog on, especially (presumably) weeks after. As for the knocking it depends on how/when it's going but if it's over slower speed bumps and when turning slower speed corners (eg around car parks) then check CV joints, track rod ends, drop links and front ARB bushes. If you wanted to check it out I could get a friend to let you put it on his ramp for a 5er. He could even check it over and diagnose the fault for you if it's visually obvious.

Drop links are ok he said, would hope they would have noticed knackered CV joints as well, no noise at all when turning slowy just when going over bumps. Is this your mate at millers that would look at it ?

Is this your mate at millers that would look at it ? I have several mates with ramps, not just my friend at Millers. I would ask around and whoever is free would do it, You can check the drop links and what not for yourself with a long/strong screwdriver if you take the wheel off, 15 minutes each side.. pry about and see if something is lose. Could also be top mounts but who knows without looking.

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Sep 3 2012, 12:35 PM) With my GF's drop links I had to take the weight off the front end because they were otherwise under tension. As soon as I jacked both wheels off the ground it was obvious what the problem was. On a second note, anyone ever used anyone who can machine polish ?

QUOTE (Penelope @ Sep 3 2012, 04:30 PM) Why? Someone scratched your car? Nope, I just want it to look extra shiny. I don't park where it is likely to get scratched.

If they are employees then I cannot understand why they are able to offer their employers facilities for a fiver including a diagnosis. I sort of think you might be guilding the lily here. (That's apolite way of saying bullsh1t).
