Wow!
Now that's what you call a gripe!
I wonder how it all happened?
Perhaps there was a build up of bad feeling on the local newspaper forum that ran out of control somewhat!! tongue.gif

This Thatcham situation reported elsewhere seems absolutely nuts; presumably from same WBC planning committee.

Perhaps I'm reading it wrong, but the guy says
QUOTE
I wish now that we had just put it up and applied retrospectively like Costa.
and presumably he's referring to the sign, but isn't it the sign that he did get planning permission for?

Indeed, what he is angry about is not getting a change of use. Seems the council would prefer an empty unit. Whilst of course Costa changed the use and applied retrospectively. Obviously had a larger brown envelope. (Allegedly).

Yeah but you’d think the applicant in this case would be wise to the procedure and of the potential pitfalls that can trap the unwary? ........especially seeing as it’s the same person who was running the pizza delivery service from the back of The Spotted Dog (funnily enough THAT burnt down too!!)

They got themselves tangled up in all the planning law red tape then..... they don't seem to have learnt their lesson. It’s alright bleating to the paper but they were perhaps getting a bit ahead of themselves

Advice offered by the Planning Dept non existent in my experience.
They refer you to a Central Govnt web site, and seem very reluctant to offer any
advice, as they used to.

Seem to just want to maximise revenues and suggest you submit a £planning application£.

In Thatcham, there are already 3 places that sell pizza, not to mention the other kebab or fish and chip places that sell them too.

Does Thatcham need another pizzeria, or do they need another retail shop?

Well, it looks as if the only retailer on the horizon thinks that another takeaway food shop will work! Some people might not like that, but if the shops aren't used, then they don't stay open - simple. Not a lot the Councillors can do about that is there? Sure, they can frustrate the planning process - but then there is all the wingeing and whining about boarded up or charity shops. Your choice!

Nodes not matter, that's for the business operator to determine.

Not only were they naive considering the trouble they had with planning at The Spotted Dog when they operated a pizzaria, but a bit dumb too....

QUOTE
Applicant Kevin Dobson said he was amazed by the decision.

“We fully expected to get planning permission. No one goes shopping in Thatcham,” he said. “It’s a village offering local services but a lot of people do travel into Thatcham to eat now. It amazes me that they can turn down something that would have been an asset to the town.”

They put the cart before the horse.... and it would be a pizza shop pretty much next to a pizza shop. Thatcham Broadway will be awash with tomato sauce and mozzarella as two feuding businesses fight for share in the Italian fast food market...

Don't forget the Villa Roma around the corner, and the pizza place in the Courtyard.

People do go into Thatcham to shop. Maybe a few more would shop if there was a few more retail shops.

If you can't get a retail shop, how about a Mexican or Japanese restaurant.

It still comes back to market forces. How many Thatcham people would use a butchers, bakers, fruit and veg shop - when they can get it all under one roof at two outlets nearby. No matter how quaint the village street once looked - it just isn't viable.

Of course, the local Parish Council who are very keen on preserving historic buildings could invest in subsidising traditional shopkeepers to trade in the town. Now there's a thought....

Erroneous entry, sorry.

Seems like the perpetrator of the various infernos in Oxfordshire had allegedly built a house on his farmland and allegedly, didn't bother with planning permission and allegedly the council had ordered it be demolished. This ongoing fracas had been running for several years. The lady with the thatched cottage had allegedly fought to have the building removed. The funeral parlour, well there's a story to that one as well but allegedly, that is another story.
Is that enough allegedlys
