I have read through the Wiki column and in truth, I think most people including me on here are somewhat guilty of cyber bullying, even those that are accusing others of it.

For me, the core definition of a bully is the abuse of power or privilege, but technically, two anonymous forum 'combatants' could perform cyber bullying. The principle driver is that someone is seeking to hurt someone and will do so by trying to encourage others to do so and by trying to intimidate someone.

"Examples of what constitutes cyberbullying include communications that seek to intimidate, control, manipulate, put down, falsely discredit, or humiliate the recipient. The actions are deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior intended to harm another. Cyberbullying has been defined by The National Crime Prevention Council: “When the Internet, cell phones or other devices are used to send or post text or images intended to hurt or embarrass another person."

A cyberbully may or may not know their target. A cyberbully may be anonymous and may solicit involvement of other people online who do not know the target. This is known as a "digital pile-on."

Cyberbullying has been defined as "when the Internet, cell phones or other devices are used to send or post text or images intended to hurt or embarrass another person"."

Speaking for myself, I have no agenda. I respond to only what I see in front of me. I don't seek the support of others and I don't spread rumours or information about other members with anyone.

If you have nothing to add to this topic, I don't care what you think.

I have been told I am a sexist, a misogynist and a (cyber)bully. I have been told I am ignorant on the subject, so here we are then.

Me? No! Why should I? It's you who seem to be most upset at your recent drubbing by the gentler sex, me? I just opened a new bag of popcorn! I can however point you in the direction of a phone box, if you want to start another fight with yourself that is.

You know full well there is no wonder, so please do tell.

I would also add, you have become a bully by your response.

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif Oh dear! I suppose I was being a bit optimistic on this forum to post such a sober subject, I think we should go back to rowing with the local councillors! tongue.gif

It is a shame as I did look forward to a discussion on the topic. I might have learned something. mellow.gif

In your main thread you ask: "Would someone define cyberbullying? At what point is someone being cyberbullied?" If you ask the question then by your own admission you are "ignorant," because you don't know.

You are obsessed by "Trolls"; if it isn't Petra, it is somebody else. The truth of the matter is, is that you are the biggest troll on here.

Untrue. I was asked loads of questions at school, but I'm sure the tutor knew the answer all along. I'm asking because I'm sure people would have differing opinions. What's yours?

JSC came on here with no intention other than to snipe. That's a troll. So what is your contribution so far?

"The differences between cyberbullying and cyberstalking have been expressed in a Trolling Magnitude ™ Scale, showing cyberbullying is more strategic and cyberstalking is more about domination.

TM Motive Mode Gravity Description
1 Playtime Cyber-bantering Cyber-trolling In the moment and quickly regret
2 Tactical Cyber-trickery Cyber-trolling In the moment but don’t regret and continue
3 Strategic Cyber-bullying Cyber-stalking Go out of way to cause problems, but without a sustained and planned long-term campaign
4 Domination Cyber-hickery Cyber-stalking Goes out of the way to create rich media to target one or more specific individuals"

Some may say hurtful texting, name calling, threats online and being targeted online because of who one is, or because someone thinks you are 'different'. But I suppose if somebody is hurt by it, and one continues after that.

My view is there has to be an element of intent and doing so from a position where the bully knows it will be hurtful or annoying. I also think in most cases the bully is more interested in cause harm than engaging with the topic in hand.
