There is a proposal before Monday's town council meeting to adopt a new logo. This is the current logo, and the new proposal is much the same:

I propose Warwick Castle, dominating with its tumescent tower.

Any ideas for a design?

If I were a resident of NTC I would be asking:
1. Why?
2. The cost
3. Proposals for seeking and selecting designs.

Austerity is over then.

Firstly they spend £90,000 to discover that people use cars to drive into town, now this. Does the Council think they are re-living the film Brewster's Millions?

You're getting your councils mixed up - the £90k is nothing to do with Newbury Town Council.

Though they do spend money like no one's looking - market, allotments, mayor...

I quite agree, and like with the flag I think we should have had an open competition to design and judge the logo. Typically rubbish public engagement.

Technically true, but the sentiment is reasonable.

I do believe the two local authorities are now in competition to see just how much they can get away with in wasting public money. Probably to make the plebs suffer for all the criticism that keeps getting thrown at them? rolleyes.gif

Is this it then. If so, that smacks of a purchased in design by some expensive and up in the clouds advertising company. What a nonsense and what a very stupidly trendy logo that will cause a "huh" first time it appears then a feeling of nausea when it appears again and again on all their expensive new headed paper that will be included in the design costs. The town will probably need new logos on their vehicles and the list can go on.

Leave well alone I say and trendy only lasts a couple of years before it's out of date.

Surely a joke? Please?
Having got to a design I reckon a fair wedge has been spent already.
Where is RUP et al to say 'NO, NO Thrice NO'?

Where are the Minutes of the meeting where the project was approved?

Do you remember the old train companies posters that now sometimes appear on the Antiques Road Show. Has a familiarity to that design style I think but that was 80 years ago or more.

If they lost a few letters from the first line added an "s", and replaced "comes to" with "run the" in the second line at least the strap-line would be accurate! dry.gif laugh.gif

No, I don't know what that is. See Appendix 4 from the agenda. The new logo is little changed from the old one.

Looks like an art deco style image of a canal bridge to me.
How does that identify Newbury?
Lots of towns have canals passing through them.

P.S. there are no bridges of that style going East from Newbury and the first one West is at Guyer's Lock.
