Hi all,

I was just wondering how long everyone else on here has to wait before they can get an appointment at their doctors?

I called for an appointment this morning, and the earliest I can get in is the 19th June! That's over 3 weeks!

Is this typical of everyone else's experience?

That seems rare, normally in a cpl of days. When we call for my 10 month old son it is normally within 2 hours.

Last time I went to the Doctors, I had to wait 2 weeks for a proper appointment. But they do drop in sessions in the evening, normally I get a consult during that period. The only thing with that is you don't necessarily get your usual doctor. I like my regular doctor so, bit of a shame.
Luckily I am not plagued by many illnesses..

I don't know the last time I went it was a couple of days wait, but that was in the early 1990's.

You must be with the Falkland Surgery? You seem to be able to get an emergency appointment on the day or have to wait 3 weeks.

That is about right, I usually don't need an emergency appointment but to wait 3 weeks is really not on. I want to see my own doctor as I feel they have got to know me over the years. To be fair I think a few of the doctors are on maternity leave, also all their doctors are very good.

What ever will it be like when we have a couple of thousand extra households on the fields by Park House all needing to see a doctor. Falkland surgery just won't be able to cope. Planners don't seem to be interested in this though.

Agreed. Its madness. One surgery for what must be a cachment area of getting on for 10000.
I've virtually given up trying to book appointments. Unless somethings about to drop off its not worth the effort.

If you just want an appointment then it takes about that long. But if it is urgent and you ring in the morning you can see a doctor the same day.

I have never been denied access to my GP on the same day. Ring early morning or afternoon for an 'emergency' appointment, or turn up for a sit and wait.
In my surgery 'emergency' does not imply an alternative to an ambulance call, just something that needs sorting to avoid time off work etc.
Anyone not happy with the service their surgery/GP offers has access to the patient 'user group'......

I have just checked on line and there is one 8:30 appointment with another doctor tomorrow, and the following two Fridays, 1st and 8th of Jun, same time, different doctor, only.

If I want to see my own doctor, the next available appointment is Tuesday, 10th July. There are plenty with different doctors before that, though.

I must be incredibly fortunate, as in nearly 40 years in Newbury, and elsewhere before that, I've never had such problems. Obviously, when 'my' GP is on holiday etc, but how often does that really matter?
Perhaps I have a different perspective on life?

I always feel bad requesting an emergency appointment. I generally feel bad going to the doctors anyway. my doctor is always busy so I end up with somebody I only know as Michelle and she is really frosty.

That said, maybe I should be more demanding,
