I wish international football was banned. Fuelled by corruption and followed by racists and xenophobes. It also disrupts the domestic game which is a superior sporting spectacle (even if it too is fuelled by corruption and followed by racists and xenophobes). With the booing of the respective national anthems and the racist insults black players have to endure, time to kick countries out of the competition, I think.

I went to England Wales at Twickenham recently. 80,000 fans and I didn't not hear one swear word all day at the ground, which was in stark contrast to when I took my nipper to their first Premiership football match.

For a change I find myself agreeing with some of what you say.
International and league football has been corrupted by greed, indiscipline, intolerance and plain thuggery. I too was appalled at the foul language that is being shouted across the terraces and the overt oafishness of so many people around me.
The beautiful game? Not anymore.

Football is grossly overated. I have always hated it and always will.
It's about as interesting as watching paint dry.

Making a comment is one thing, but repeatedly taking the opportunity to vent your opinion and 'disturb' a thread for football fans that you could just as easily ignore, is another. wink.gif

Football is overrated, although I enjoy it myself, but I don't like some of its supporters and I think it tends to bring the worst out of some people..

Whoa Andy!
I now stay well away from football threads as it is not my scene as you know.
Just broke the rule this time to warn others who may venture into criticising the game of the dangers of doing so. smile.gif

I didn't realise the other world cup was on at all until Saturday! Maybe I don't watch enough TV?

Yes I have, and those games are acutely like that.

Sorry, I thought you were refering only to the International Game. My bad.

We keep most of our racism here on the domestic terraces (as far as football is concerned), but some of the newer emerging nations (eastern european in particular) seem to have difficulty leaving it behind when they travel

It would be inappropiate to label all footie supporters as racists, but it does seem to act as a draw for a fair few of them. Or maybe in a crowd with the old 'mob mentality' going on, it's the only place they can give a voice to their fears and confusion.

Don't care much for football. If it's on and I'm bored and have nothing else to do, I will watch it. I "support" Chelsea simply because my favorite colour is blue and when I was 7 I had a Chelsea shirt bought for me because I had a strange attraction to Lions at the time.

In terms of football and what it represents, this video pretty much has everything mentioned.

A bit of generalisation? Yes it is a bit of a generalisation. I'd say many football supporters are an embarrassment to civility. Especially Chelsea ones! wink.gif tongue.gif

I would plead with everyone to g osee at least one Rugbt International before they die, totally different experience, bedore, after and during the match. Walk into a pub after the game, realise it's full of the other sides supporters and prepare for one of them to buy you a beer. Different Game, Different World.

I agree. An utterly better experience. Fun and high jinx with out the fighting, swearing and bigotry. Just as pricey mind.

Different type of game though as you say. Rugby players don't moan because they fall over, so the attitudes sort of go back out to the fans.
