No, as usual with the Yanks, expensive and over engineered. Our fall back was knives, but apparently hammers are making a comeback.

As a small boy I was reasonably adept with a catapult . Silent and just as lethal as a pistol at 10 yards. Something unethical about a knife and a hammer wears a hole in your trouser pocket . Lot of talk about the "dark web" but never met anyone who has experienced it so I tend to believe it is another propaganda tool .

AK-47, cheapest most reproduced gun in the world. And it's russian not American. But apart from that.

Oh yes, even better; but takes a bit of skill, of course, as you doubtless know, you can have a lot of fun practicing. If it's just a bit of cash you are after, or even if someone looks at your bird in an odd way, a hammer gets respect, they don't need ammo and are just four quid no questions asked.

Bit difficult to buy in Russia, you need contacts. Just over the counter in the States, but getting it back here is non too easy. All that means the cost to us here is a bit more and some than a hammer.

Bit difficult to clear a room with a hammer, also a bit difficult bringing down game, still, useful for the whining liberal millennials to crack their nuts with. What you need is an AR15, a side by side 12 bore, and a nice little Glock. Sorted.

Yeah........in the States. Most of you wouldn't know even how to lift a machine gun let alone fire it. Love all the Dad's Army talk though! Frankly, if I wanted to clear a room, indeed a whole suburb, I wouldn't bother with firearms or even knives. If you really want to scare yourself to sleep think how easy it is to post small packages from the Far East. So, if it keeps you happy, keep on with the air rifles and take out a few bunnies!

Yeah, right. I grew up with sporting guns, .22 rifles, shotguns, even taught how to strip a smle. So just don't generalise everyone by your limited standards. Anyway I know you're slow but we were discussing end of world / breakdown of civilization scenarios. So posting some mythical package from the far East is, even in your fevered mind, unlikely to help. Now is it?

Well, got my repeats all sorted, after lots of phoning, still, all's well and all that. Just hope the chemists do their bit properly now. So if the end of the world comes this weekend I'm ok for the next year smile.gif

On a side note, I was fortunate to be enrolled in a cadet force while still at the old 'Alma Mater' and learned to handle small bore rifles on the range beneath the old drill hall in Maidenhead. Once a year we were allowed to attend camp where along side the usual study and parade routine we also got taken up for flight tuition and best of all at least once we would parade to the range and get to shoot Lee Enfields and on one very memorable occasion, ten rounds through an old Bren Gun. Summers for a young lad before 'elf n safety' joyous.

Yes...

The world was rather different in the 1950's - todays generations aren't brought up learning to respect or discipline. Instead are fed a diet of violent games and Rambo type box sets, where the heroes get up and walk off after being shot. That with being taught they are supreme and have nothing to learn from anyone else.

On the originating issue for this thread; did you get them to change their processes so the problem doesn't arise again?

No, again, it isn't real news. A situation not uncommon in this scientific discipline; investigating things not previously seen or noticed. Making the public aware by sexing up the story; brilliant idea, particularly if you think your funding is at risk!
