Regards the report on motorcycle outriders stopping the peasants so an unknown, so called VIP, could pass through unhindered, was it perhaps Price Charles visiting Hamstead Marshall ? Obviously hasn't taken on board the Cameron approach to ostentation then; at least he didn't use a helicopter

If true, I personally think this is outrageous with our already congested roads.

If true, I personally think this is outrageous with our already congested roads. Anything we can do to make the Olympics great is such as small sacrifice. I suggest, should you find this a pain, you set off 5 mins earlier.

It's not the fact that I may be held up - in fact that probably won't affect me. It's this "holy-er than thou" approach these these people have over the rest of us. We all hevreasons to get somewhere that are important to ourselves as individuals, This has not been done before and I do not see why the rest of us should be regarded as being less important that some jumped up sports officials. People regularly get angry on this and other forums about traffic congestion. Does your " et off 5 mins earlier" solution apply to all these cases?

A Police Escort stopping traffic for a minute or less to let a convoy of VIPs drive through a road junction is a totally different senario.

This Olympic VIP lane idea will cause queues much longer than 5 minutes. It was planned to apply to certain sections of motorway, and trunk roads too. This could affect us because of traffic passing through to Olympic events in Dorset. Hopefully new Government will not pursue this idea reminiscent of the USSR, where Polit Bureau officials had same priority. You'll recall Commissar Prescott the Great Deputy Leader implemented closing off outside lane at M4 near Chiswick end, supposedly for taxis/buses, but then used by MPs, allegedly for security reasons The fact we've heard nothing of late doesn't mean Labour didn't sign up to secret deals agreeing this. If the amazing scenario arrives where one lane of M4 is excluded to Joe Public, and there's then a shunt, we are down to 1 lane. 5 minute delay..I think not.

Most motorways are one lane these days due to the idiots driving in lane 2 at 65mph. And not forgetting twice as many in lane three because there's no point pulling in if you're only going to pull out again.

QUOTE (Iommi @ May 27 2010, 01:21 AM) Exactly, near-side lane has 50 mile an hour crawlers, middle lane slow overtakers, out-side lane full of people trying to keep to 80 or more. I have to correct you there on a small point. "Middle lane - slow drivers who stay there whether overtaking or not!" They're all members of CLODS (Centre Lane Owners and Drivers Society) whose vision and ultimate goal is to be able to enter and leave the motorway without using the inside lane, which technically is out of bounds to all members.

Just out of interest which lane do Strafin, Iommi and Biker travel in? Me I am a DIC (Do It Correctly).

I use the nearest side lane, accept when over taking, or when passing an on on-ramp, so with motorways as busy as they are these days, is all the time. When on a motorway, I'll attempt to travel at between an indicated 75/80, so if I am in the your way, you are speeding. Having said all this, I rarely use the motorway.

My Dad sits in the middle all the time "because there's a junction coming up", so what?? And what gives you right to speed over everybody else? And even if you were within the limits, blocking ither drivers progress is still bad driving and as antisocial as speeding itself so there is no high ground there.

QUOTE (Strafin @ May 27 2010, 03:16 PM) Wrongly then. My Dad sits in the middle all the time "because there's a junction coming up" Because that is what I was taught, you pull over for on-ramps to allow safe merging of traffic from the left...common courtesy I understand. I know, but an indicated 80 in my car is around a true 72 MPH, so if I am in your way, you are breaking the law, bearing in mind that I said I use the left most lane unless my way is impeded, or there is an on-ramp, so blow that out your tail-pipe, yah motoring snob!
