Apologies in advance if anyones home or business gets bulldozed by the virtual road improvements! However sat in traffic can make a girl go mad, I decided to put on 'paper' the ideas I have had over the years whilst bored sat in Newburys traffic. I can tell you none of the ideas was reducing the A339 to one lane (does this person live, drive, travel around Newbury?? London Road from Clocktower to Robin Hood (A339)

QUOTE (blackdog @ May 25 2012, 12:16 AM) This one isn't virtual - it will happen as part of the Faraday Plaza build. Good! well thats one off the list and WBC/Hamster Council won't need to fork out for

QUOTE (dannyboy @ May 25 2012, 09:25 AM) The idea is to discourage private car use, not make it easier. This won't happen, lets face it, not unless we go back to the good old days where Mum could stay at home and walk kids to school down the road. I for one would be quite happy for hubby to be the breadwinner and not have to drive 5 miles every day to drop kids for a 8.40 school start at two different schools, throw them out the car and race to work for a 9.00 start. Its just not like that now as we all know. The bus services couldn't even try to meet the needs of this sort of family set up, which I can imagine that mine is much the same as a lot of families around here. People often moan about the Mum's all driving to drop kids off, yes I am sure a minority of lazy cows, but I imagine many don't have a choice as they have to get to work straight after and unless they can stop time theres no choice but to take a car. Okay so there are people without kids who should take the bus, I can't tell you much about that, but I know in my office alone in the town centre out of say 20 staff, more than half of them travel in from villages and places including Basingstoke, Kingsclere, Swindon, Reading etc - the buses for them would add a lot of travel time to thier day and cost more than driving the car to work that they no doubt already and pay for anyway.

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ May 25 2012, 12:43 AM) Some interesting ideas there hamster, although it seems as though this would just increase the density of south bound traffic on the A34, leading to the Police Station Roundabout. Im ahead of you there Andy Capp, thats why I would allow traffic to go from Parkway to the Wharf, the Faraday Plaza slip road and i'd also like a bridge from by Scatts, behind Sainsburys onto the A339 by Halfords for the Sainsburys/Hambridge Road northbound traffic. I have not done a picture, but I would ALSO like a slip road off the A339 North Sandleford link into the back of the retail park, it would enter between Mothercare and the MacDonalds drive thru (Not asking too much! oh and an endless budget would be good )

I used to walk milkes to school everyday and did a coal round before hand. Me Dad used to bike twenty miles to work and if Man didn't 'ave 'is dinner on't table when he got in, she knew it! Only Squire had a car back then of course. Quite agree - lets put clock back; don't know you are born some of you,.

And why on earth would anyone want a choice? The catchment scheme method must mean that all the schools are exactly the same. What possible grounds could you have for an appeal?

What possible grounds could you have for an appeal? Cos some schools are seen to be better than others. Sibblings being kept together is the number one cause for appeal I'd imagine.

Sibblings being kept together is the number one cause for appeal I'd imagine. Oh dear. That demolishes Andy Capp's plea then. Would the electorate really want to go back to the situation where your childs future depended on what street you lived. Very fair!
