Please - NO!

Lets' hope the 'snag' is a big one!

While I would love to see the old threshers shop filled please don't put another money wasting shop in! How nice it would be to have a bakery or a proper butcher shop or even a useful chemist shop!

Trouble is the sort of shops you mention have to compete with Budgens even though it is smallish. But I agree surely something other than a bookmakers should be given an opportunity to support the community.

Totally agree!

Didn't the Chemist that is now on Monks Lane used to be there?

The crazy thing is, that, although they are my 'local' shops, I can't actually think of what I would like to see go in there!

It wouldn't take much to compete with Budgens. Whilst it's a nice shop and all that it is a convenience store charging convenience prices.

I agree about the bakery or a proper butcher shop, are you thinking of starting one?

My husband and I were discussing the other day what shop we would open if we won the lottery and decided on a fishing tackle shop as Newbury is definitely lacking one. Not sure that shop would be big enough for it though !!

decided on a fishing tackle shop

There was one for a long time next door to the dentist in Bartholomew Street. I can only assume there was not enough business for it to remain open.

There's two in Thatcham as well. And don't some of the sports shops sell fishing equipment as well?

Alas I think the one in Newbury closed down when the owner died and his wife could not manage it any more as she was quite old. There is only one now in Thatcham as the one by Chick King closed down and I am sorry to say but it is not very good you can never get what you need unless you order it in....... We have just been to Swindon to get what is needed so quite a treck....

It's certainly not where all the cabby Sun readers live who would probably use it more than the Wash Common residents or are you suggesting that they are all adults up there and don't need that sort of attraction and most of them read the Mail which uses big words and anyway the missus would know where youve been cos you would carry the faint odour of fish and chips but you could buy your Sun at the newsagents next door... Phew
