Could somebody help me please? My mother is coming to visit me and we are going to take her to a local restaurant. Normally we would take her outside Newbury or I normally would go to somewhere like Pizza Express or the Diamond Tap. Neither, I think, are appropriate so I have decided to take her to one of three, Ask, Strada (both in the Market place) or Prezzo (the old library). Any suggestions and which would you regard as classier? Thank you.

We will probably be going this Saturday, would you suggest booking in advance?

Long time since I last ate in Prezzo, but they did a very passable chinati.

It's a condition caused by drinking too much Italian red wine. It causes letters in words to be transposed. Only known cure is more Italian red wine. <hic>

Prezzo. The food's good and I like the set-up as it's in the old-old-library.

Thank you User23, one sensible answer out of 5, but then that really does not surprise me on here. Talking to other people that seems to be the consensus. I had a quick look at the three places after work and Prezzo seems more up market. Classy.

It would be Prezzo for me out of those three. I like the building and decor and the food's fine. Piss-heads can be an issue in Newbury in the evening, so park in Cheap Street.

Top choice for italian is Casanova in Hungerford, but it's really too expensive for me.

Top choice overall is the Swan Inn, Newtown. Excellent, attentive service, delicious food, relaxing restaurant.

Hi Heather, Prezzo would be my first choice as well, good food, good service and atmosphere - and would defo recommend booking. Enjoy your evening!

Of the choices given Prezzo would be top for me. Strada can be good but is inconsistent.

Maybe she is a vampire and 'off to bed' is just a euphemism in the bat world for sucking blood. And don't forget bed has many other connotations other than sleep. She might be on a promise (do you remember that Iommi... or is that a step too far for you?)

it is Hobson's choice.

All are just upmarket chain restaurants, with the food prepared along the same lines as KFC & McDonalds. Prezzo has the best premises, so I'd go there. If I had to.

Thanks you everybody for your suggestions. I took my mother to Prezzo's and we had a great time. I thoroughly recommended it to anybody else who wants to go.

Which bit did you sit in? There are three different bits and the atmosphere is different (but good) in all three.

It's been a while since I went to the Valle D'oro... It used to be a bit of a hidden gem and could knock the spots off the more 'designer' Prezzo or Strada or other knock-off posh pizza parlours in the town.....

Is it still as good? Anyone know?
