Alcohol, tobacco and meat. All very bad for you and usually all things you do when you're young. They should make alcohol as socially unacceptable as smoking is now.

I do the same job as one of my black colleagues and he earns a lot more than me. 🤔

Anecdotes don’t really prove anything.

QUOTE (SirWilliam @ Jun 22 2020, 12:19 PM) *
An object lesson to all, Sir. The problem, (in the UK), is that we have had over 20 years of "nanny state" politics which at best has reassured the inhabitants that whatever life throws at them there is a steel floor which will not allow them to fall, but the flip side is that the intrinsically idle are in the same system and have exploited it without a second thought to the detriment of all. Do we wish to return to a pre-war type system where the few rich lorded it over the many poor? Of course not but it did mean everyone had to take some form of employment in order to survive and those who had the aptitude were rewarded for their endeavours.
Of course this has bugger all to do with the BLM farce but it needs to be recognised in the context of slavery per se having little to do with colour but a lot with exploitation. We have strict employment laws that protect not only employees but also prospective ones which means when a candidate presents himself for consideration it will not be a skin colour that sits across the table but someone who could potentially benefit the business. This simply means that the best (wo)man gets the job. Anyone who thinks that someone is going to be turned down because of their colour/race/religion is living in cloud cuckoo land as are those who bang on about equality.

There is evidence suggesting you’re wrong; this is just one example.

“ Wherever you look across society this yawning gap in the lives of the black and white population reveals itself.

In 2018, black people had the highest unemployment rate of any ethnicity at 9% – more than twice the white population at 4%. Data from the Office for National Statistics shows that, in 2018, only 66.9% of the black population was employed, versus 76.4% of the white population.
Even when they are employed, black people do not earn as much as others.

In London in 2018, ethnic minorities earned 21.7% less than the rest of the population. In the same year, the Resolution Foundation found that, overall, 1.9 million black and ethnic minority workers are paid about £3.2 billion less than their white counterparts every year.”

You know very well that won't happen. Just employ hundreds of personnel to "educate" the poor unfortunates who have suffered decades of Tory under investment.
The principle is sound, but as is the case in most of these ventures, it will be exploited.

Perhaps there would be enough money for it if taxes were recovered with the same amount of vigour, Not to mention the billions banks and other institutions robbed the public.

Seems to have been conducted in a civilised manner which no one can have any problem with but I still at a loss as to whether they are protesting about the treatment of people in America or here? We have strict laws in this country to protect the populace from racial/sexual/gender etc discrimination and anyone who is subjected to it has the given right to protection. I can not speak for other countries but, apart from a few mindless yobs ,we have a completely tolerant society of which we are justifiably proud yet we are being screamed at by a vociferous faction that is under the impression that we are anything but inclusive. Are these people completely ignorant or are we all missing the elephantidae in the room?

Like else where, many have learned to hide their racism; however, racism is not solely a white diseased.

Diabolical it may be, but the alternative doesn't bear thinking about. As for the EU, the global pandemic has turned what some saw as a life belt has morphed into a millstone.

Like this is salvation.

You are I take it referring to the Brexit decision democratically arrived at with what amounted to a second referendum in December? And the government that gained power in one of the greatest landslide elections in three generations?

Brexit means we will be left with this shower of idiots. That one.

It’s worse than that. Ether he lied to the Government, or the Government lied to us. He needs to go. The Brexit issue is that we will be left with this diabolical government.

Anyone else confused by Matt Hancock's use of the word 'more'?

During the campaign, the document stated the party would add “50,000 more nurses” to the NHS workforce, but it emerged the figure included 18,500 existing nurses who will be encouraged to stay in their posts.

The manifesto says: "We will deliver:
50,000 more nurses, with students receiving a £5,000-£8,000 annual maintenance grant every year during their course to help with their cost of living – and they won’t have to pay it back. Everyone will receive at least £5,000 with further funding in regions or disciplines that are struggling to recruit..."

So does that mean a nurse population of 50,000 more than is presently the case? And will they be equally qualified? huh.gif

Simple question to the left wing element of this little forum-

"Has a Labour government ever done ANYTHING for the working class? With the possible exception of the post war Attlee regime the answer is an emphatic no, which is why the electorate is at last throwing off this silly family voting tradition and using their eyes.

Not that Im a Labour fan, but on top of the Attlee years...

Barbara Castle introduced the Equal Pay Act of 1970. New labour introduced the National Minimum Wage.

Labour also oversaw the decriminalisation of homosexuality (compared to the Tories attempt at Section 28), legislation to outlaw racial discrimination, the establishment of the Open University, Civil Partnerships, the Equality Act, the Human Rights Act and legislating for equality of opportunity for all, cancelled up to 100 per cent of debt for the world’s poorest countries and brought about the world’s first Climate Change Act. of course some of the above would have been cross-party.

And there I was thinking the BBC left wing bias was, at times, nauseating. The character of an individual can best be evaluated by their response to being beaten fair and square. Time to man up Mr Corbyn.

I’m not sure he was beaten fair and square; the press were mainly against him, but he was always never going to win over over the electorate; him and his shadow cabinet.

Essentially then, I can't see the purpose of the long list of unrelated statements. I'd certainly agree that recent Tory administrations have taken steps to rapidly stop the ship of state sinking simply by strictly disciplined spending following the global economic and are now set fair to move us forward again. And yes, letting Captain Corbyn and his chums anywhere near the helm doesn't bear thinking about.

In it together.

Many replies didn’t actually address the point and some merely questions. Like I said, if you see those points as functioning despite the removal of unnecessary expenditure, then you are correct.

35% of self employed only earn £100 a month.
Increase of 50% in hate crimes.
Increase of knife crime by 150% to 22,000 per year.
Life expectancy down 3 years.

One concern is that Labour rightly or wrongly have some new ideas, the Tories have nothing, except to spend some of the money they’ve denied the country for nine years. I think the NHS feels a lot like the one we had under Thatcher.

It looks like the country is capable of self harm (Brexit) so there is a possibility it could happen again(Labour) although I doubt it.

Yep but water IS essential to live. Broadband isn't. In my view the following should be considered for nationalisation

1. Water
2. Rail

Both should only be done so if the Unions agree not to strike.

Nowt else.

Shelter, energy and food are also essential.

I generally don't give a **** what any of the politicians say, but that one is pure "oh, vote for us, we're lovelies!". It's about as ridiculous as free chocolate for everyone for life.
"Mr McDonnell said that if other broadband providers did not want to give access to British Broadband, then they would also be taken into public ownership." What a marvellous way to bring tech development to a standstill. Who in their right mind is going to continue to develop a business, knowing it could just be taken away on a whim?
Broadband is not essential to life, it's a luxury. Like all luxuries, you can choose to have it if you can afford it. Gas, electric, and water; they're essentials. Without those there is the potential for death, without broadband, not really.
I very much doubt that anyone struggling to heat and/or light their home would say "I can't afford gas and electric, but I have free broadband so we're all good".

I'm left wondering if, instead of writing an election manifesto, they just watched Idiocracy and thought "yeah, we'll go with that'.

It’s not quite water, but it is becoming increasingly hard to live without Internet access.

Bear in mind the worst part of our rail system is the public bit? And who wants a network connection owned by the government?
