I bet Parkway are losing a few customers today because they don’t have covered walkways to keep off the elements.

Must be the only new shopping centre in the UK that doesn’t provide protection from the rain.

The Kennet Centre has a cover, just a shame that it is such a crap selection of shops.

Look according to WBC SLI gave us a brand new shopping centre.? Just how much do you want them to give us?

We gave them half of Newbury for a whole £1 and you expect a roof as well? Still as it is still less than half full perhaps it is not finished yet and a roof may be provided later when it is fully occupied? You must know nothing gets done properly in Newbury? rolleyes.gif

There is a sort of explanation here as to why it was built with "open streets".
Does anyone know a better reason why the decision was made to build it this way?

I quite like the fact that it's open. Keeps it real and helps to distract you from death by shopping blink.gif

Also means that when raining, those who are unprepared don't go there.

That is probably a plus point for some shoppers.
As James Joyce wrote.

I am too old for that malarky. Biker1

I agree with Adrian, I don't enjoy Shopping Malls. They echo, there are too many people
wandering around aimlessly, are they all Zombies from a movie?
It is bad enough going into a single store such as JL on Oxford st,
or in my case Primark down by the encampment awaiting suckers arriving for the Olympics.(Marble Arch)
Shopping is "pants", (he growls).

Sorry about that slight deviation to the banks of the Liffey.

As schoolboys we had to do classes other than basics. So a master, fondly remembered as Kek,
took us through Greek and Roman poetry, the works he used were only in bite sized versions.
All writers really ,all the way to Bob Dylan.
Things stick in your memory almost 50 years on.

I have just looked up Finnegans Wake which is available on Google.
I think I will stick to my usual ovaltine/horlicks and a slasher murder mystery for bedtime.

Who goes shopping in town these days?
Haven't these people heard of "the internet". The only thing I go shopping for in town is clothes and food, in which case Sainsburys and the Retail Park has everything you need.
If you want anything else (need/want = different) then you suffer. As you should.

Soon we will not have to go out for anything... Stay in our houses, away from horrid 'other folk'. If we do go out, in a car with locked doors, sealed windows and darkly tinted glass....

What do you mean we will be expected to leave the house? rolleyes.gif Won't be able to afford the petrol soon anyway let alone the insurance and tax and just think of the cost of those tinted windows? huh.gif

Yes, but it was designed as open air event. Lovely in the summer, but for that pleasure we must suffer when it rains. The good news is that they invented umbrellas for when such problems arise. wink.gif

The only problem with that is, the last and only time I have walked through Parkway, the wind was blowing and Parkway was acting like a wind tunnel so no chance of using an umbrella then! Plus being on the tall side I avoid walking in public places when raining and people will be using unbrellas, I value my eyes too much! rolleyes.gif

Isn't the idea that it's an extension of the high street rather than being a shopping centre on its own?

The Retail Park has less cover than Parkway and that seems to do all right so I'm not sure how many potential customers would be put off by the streets in Parkway not having a roof over them.

If the rain bothers you that much buy a hat. I believe they have a wide selection available in Parkway.
