That was a nice little drop of rain yesterday. Although in Speen we had over 2.5 INCHES of rain in total from yesterdays Atlantic storm.

The bad news is that the Met Office have already issued more/NEW weather warnings for this coming Friday, as there is yet another Atlantic Storm heading our way. Severe Weather warnings are in force for yet more torrential rains and as for the wind on Friday, the predictions at the moment are pointing to the winds be even worse than last night.

As for longer term, some models are suggesting that there may well be another Atlantic Storm on the 30/31 (although those are early indications).

Either way, I hope you all stay safe. Well most of you anyway!

Seasons Greetings

That's great. I'm driving up to Nottingham on Friday to stay with a Friend over the weekend.

I can live with the wind and the rain, it's the salted winter roads that I hate. Make my car all dirty, grr.

I feel sorry for those in the area who lost power because of the storm. Luckily I was not affected. Still, losing power is pretty insignificant compared to those who lost their lives.

Once again someone dies trying to rescue their dog. The animal, as usual, was unharmed. It's a natural thing to do, but...

Been in Surrey, flooded roads but not as bad as some parts of Surrey. Main gripe was the A25 flooded and closed but traffic news on Highways Agency and BBC no mention of the closure, apart from one item Xmas eve at about 11am by 11.30 shown as cleared. Left it until 3pm as suspicious about it being cleared and still closed.

Noticed other incidents not being shown too.

The journey we had been making wasn't vitally important and had there been decent info we would have stayed at home rather than add to the traffic chaos!

Emergency services were having a nightmare s seasons greeting to them for a job well done under difficult circumstances.

More wind & rain expected on Sunday night & early hours of Monday. The winds are not expected to be anything near as bad as those on Monday and on Boxing Day night, but heavy rain is forecast. Given the fact that the ground is saturated, then surface/ground water flooding is likely.

If you live in a low lying area or live by a stream or river then please make a note of the Environment Agency floodline:

Telephone: 0845 988 1188

Website: http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk

As for further ahead, forecast models are showing that another new Atlantic Storm for New Years day. Although obviously that forecast may change.

The fact is as of yet there are no indications that this current weather pattern will change anytime soon. As this weather is being brought about by the Jet Stream and there are NO signs of it shifting in the near future (7 days or so).

So if you are near rivers, please stay safe.

Thanks for the warning! Not too keen on the rain, marginally better than the wind.

So if you are in an area such as above with the threat of flooding what does contacting the "Floodline" or going on the website actually do to alleviate the problem?

But can it light a candle as brightly as a potato?
And will it stop the rains "Noah" Capp?

The weather seems to hit most parts of the UK at some time of year.
Lack of it or too much of it. Blame the someone else is the only option
when you are sodden, without electric (sic) and thoroughly fed up,a moan at life seems fine.
But to have a go at a PM is a bit naff.

During rain free summers in Norfolk, a sudden deluge hits fields and runs off into clogged ditches
and overflows straight through my neighbours house. I live on "The Hill". 2 inches higher.
Never has 2 inches made so much difference. Ask Elizabeth Taylor.
Every five years he has new carpets. Now I know why the carpet decor is from Poundland.

A neighbour mentioned a trip up Glastonbury Tor over the last week and the whole surrounding land was waterlogged.
The Somerset levels. Twas ever thus.

As Gazzadp says we should be more careful.
At least we are not building on the slopes of a volcano, even Pliny got it wrong (allegedly)

You are probably right CE. It isn't down to the PM. Weird, isn't it? Much as we all claim to want to control our own destiny, we want someone 'in charge'.

Personally, I blame the Met Office, we've only had such bad weather since they moved to Exeter. Should have stayed in Berkshire.

Funny you should mention Exeter OTE. A while ago I stayed on the way to St Ives in a 16thC pub there.
Nice meal by a roaring fire, slightly spoilt by a large group discussing the weather and the recent move to Exeter of said Met Office.
Perhaps all reports are made that way, "Over to the Met Office for a report from The White Hart"

Had another batch of emails from the Met Office and other sources. Weather Alerts/Warnings for yet another load of heavy rain on New Years day have now be issued.

I expect that watch to be both upgraded and also an additional alert for high winds/gales also on News Years day to follow.

There is also signs that we get another Atlantic storm at the end of the week too.

Sadly there is still no end to this set up, so there will be no real improvement in the next week or so.

Gazza - sounds like you're on the front line. Are you prepared to say what area you work in? Utilities? Transport? Just interested (nosy if you like!)

Sadly there is absolutely NO end in sight to this weather either, I had several emails from the Met Office today containing weather warnings for HEAVY RAIN & STRONG WINDS (Gales/Severe Gales), for later tonight/tomorrow. More weather warning have been issued for the SAME AGIN on Sunday!

There are already signs of yet another MAJOR Atlantic Storm coming in on Monday/Tuesday!

So might be a new calender year, but is is still the same horrible weather!

@ JeffG: Nope I just have some good friends on Facebook, meteorologists both UK based and many in the US including some of those Storm Chasers, Weather presenters seen on US TV and channels such as Discovery & National Geographic! (I suppose that is one good thing about facebook).

Then you can also access all the weather information/data from other sources online too and not just from the Met Office.

Anyway HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!

**Update**

There is now talk of yet another major Atlantic Storm, this one due (probably) next Wednesday! Will post updates as and when the forecast models show more confidence!

Well, the good thing is that while it's raining, it's not freezing.
