McDonald's restaurant at retail park applies for licence to serve food 24 hours a day at weekends

MCDONALD’S restaurant at Newbury Retail Park has applied for permission to serve food all night long on Fridays and Saturdays.
The restaurant lodged its application on May 19 in the hope that it will be allowed to serve food and drink between 11pm and 5 am.
The restaurant’s car park has become a usual meeting spot of so called “boy racers” who already congregate late at night - to the annoyance of nearby residents.
Greenham parish council chairman, Tony Forward, said that he planned to object to the proposals and feared the two-day licence was just the “tip of the iceberg”.
Mr Forward said it would make more sense for McDonald’s to extend the operating hours of its outlet at Tot Hill services where passing motorists could stop all night.
He said he feared, if the licence was granted, that it would bring more traffic off the A34 and into the town centre late at night.
The retail park was subject to a police dispersal order, which allowed officers to disperse groups of teenagers, but the order expired earlier this year.
An assistant manager at the McDonald’s outlet said that they had been trying to get the licence for years but had been rejected because of the trouble caused by some of the ‘boy racers’ in the past. Anyone can voice an opinion about the change in licensing condition but they must do so before June 17 by writing to West Berkshire Council.
