No. I'm just not stupid enough to believe that Vue cinemas would contact the AA and ask them to make 10 incorrect signs. Then after they've let a few more people know they have a new cinema in Newbury, pay for them to be replaced.

I'm with you on this Andy.

Honestly, some people!

I do however question Newbury Today's report that 5000 people saw films there during the opening weekend, just like I queried the attendance figures quoted on their story about this year's Michaelmas Fair.

Some people I know went on Saturday evening and saw a screening of 2012. They said that about half the seats were taken. I believe the capacity of the whole cinema is 1000, so they would have needed to fill it 5 times to achieve this. Fair play to them if they did though and as ever I am willing to be corrected.

Using 2012 as an example.....It is showing 13 over Sat/Sun. So times that by the 7 screens, would mean an average of 55 people per film to get 5000.

I think there was 68 start times for all films over the week end, if so, then it would average 74 people per show. Of course some will be less, many will be more.

Sorry, I misunderstood your 'No'. I thought you meant it was not a coincidence, and therefore deliberate.

What were you saying no to? unsure.gif

You're being quite pedantic with semantics , aren't you? wink.gif
I think it is quite obvious what the 'no' means. smile.gif

Sorry, I didn't think I was being pedantic or even literal. If someone ask a question "Is it a coincidence?" and someone says "No", then what am I supposed to infer? If it was obvious to you that something else was meant, then it wasn't to me. wink.gif

The "Coincidence" with as a question after "nice free publicity for the new cinema" inferred to me that the mis-spelled signage was done deliberately to specifically advertise the cinema, which I believe it wasn't.

I'm not sure that Multipex means anything at all.

Perhaps we can think of a meaning.

I'll make a start............

"Multipex" :- noun

"A half empty cinema that is launched in a hail of publicity but soon becomes a white elephant"

How much so you think a full page 'story' on the local BBC website would have cost?

Any publicity is good publicity. We are even bothering to waste time discussing it on here. How many people saw the signs, mentioned it & inadvertently got a conversation about the new cinema going? The best advertising is the advertising you don't realise is advertising. Like announcing you are going to stop making Salad Cream.

Nothing, it's free!!!

Plus it had already been announced on the BBC...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/berkshire/8359684.stm[

But if you still want to believe that the AA agreed to tarnish it's image to give The Vue cinema some extra local advertising, then obviously your quite welcome to that opinion, but I personally feel your ever so slighty off your rocker. laugh.gif
