I notice on postal voting papers the Lib Dem candidate, and a couple of minor party candidates, don't show their addresses, just "within West Berkshire".

So much for openess/ transparency sad.gif

I would have thought it might be for security reasons.

Do we really need to know exactly where they live? Unless we want to kill them.

I would like to know if the potential MP for Newbury lives in Newbury, yes. I don't think, there is anything sinister about that.

Dear Colleagues,

I can assure you that there are no conspiracies as I am aware that Judith Bunting lives in Newbury.

As for not saying exactly where, the law changed a few years ago and, candidates need no longer give their precise address.

Yours

She responded on Facebook and said exactly that, she just doesn't want her address all over the Internet. She did not answer the question as to whether she lives in Newbury or not.

Her "North Of Newbury" comment in literature, could mean Rotherham!

I assume she doesn't live in Newbury, apparently a pre requisite for most of our political representatives!

The Newbury Constituency includes Hungerford, Thatcham, Kintbury and numerous other towns and villages. There are other places to live other than Newbury and I don't think it needs to be a prerequisite to live above a shop on Bartholomew Street in order to represent the constituency.

It would however help if you lived in the local area and perhaps use the local services, shops and have a good in-depth knowledge of the area. That's not too much to ask of our HoC rep

I would presume that Bunting has a home address in the Northcroft ward because she is nominating Gwen Mason in the district council election and a requirement is that the nominators live in the ward (though curiously enough it's not a requirement on the nominee).

I don't know what her problem is. If you're going to stand for public office you have to accept a degree of public scrutiny and I don't think it's unreasonable that the electorate know your home address.

I don't see it matters so long as the main home is in the electoral area.

I don't either, but the area in which she lives isn't clear. As I already said, I don't need an exact address but I do expect to know roughly where our representative reside.

Ms Bunting is a resident of Newbury and lives in the Old College Road. From past experience she used to be a director of WBRRC in Hungerford but resigned just over a year ago.

I don't think we need to know the full address of prospective politicians. However there seems no reason why we shouldn't know the first part of the post code.

So saying I live in RG14 or for more clarity RG14 1 would give you an idea if they are residents of the constituency.

I see, so it's alright for her and her group of electioneering pixies to bang on your door or shove things through your letterbox, but she doesn't want the same intrusion on her front door?

I don't think that is a fair comparison. Once every 5 years is something with which I can put up! tongue.gif
