Any truth in the rumour that Morrison's have shown an interest in the Wyvale Garden centre site on the A4 between Thatcham and Newbury.?

Hadn't heard that; in some parts of country B&Q are subletting 40 to 60% of certain stores that are now seen as too big just for DIY, to Morrison's.

Additionally they had shown an interest in buying Wyevale previously, no doubt seeking to emulate
Tesco's purchase of Dobbies Garden chain.

Has that garden centre closed down then? I am surprised!

No, it's still going and really busy at the weekend but they (Morrisons) are on an expansion trail and it would be a pretty lucrative site for a supermarket and out of town enough for a petrol station.

If that were to happen, then petrol would be be very expensive, if you look at prices from Reading to Newbury along the A4

Ah yes because BP which is probably 0.75 miles down the road, and Texaco which is 1.5 miles in the opposite direction, are too far.

Rather than faff around building Supermarkets where people don't want them, how about the petrol stations which DO exist have the premium Unleaded for once?
BP and Shell been dry for 3 days now. Had to fill up with Tescos 99... much will see on how well it runs.

If a supermarket was built where it was not wanted by the people then surely it would go out of business almost straight away?
I presume that market research is done to determine whether there is potential custom for such a development?

I don't think that's true. People are lazy and will often go to where is closest regardless of location or quality or price..

However I won't start suddenly going to Morrisons because I don't need fresh fish and I'm not Northern. smile.gif

There is a big Tesco, as I said, a 1 minute drive if the traffic lights are friendly, and Thatcham side you have two Co-ops.

I'd be interested to hear whether you notice any difference. I only ever use Shell V-Power (or Nitro+ or whatever they've called it now)... Thanks

They told 'all and sundry' that they aimed to be in by the middle of July. A recent email from them went out again to 'all and sundry' saying that that plan had now been 'put on hold'.

That could just mean they've put the plans back a bit for operational / financial reasons, or it could mean they've decided the site really isn't big enough and are looking to move elsewhere.

I'll give it a couple of tanks and see.

I have to run my car on Ultimate (98 ideally).
I noticed a big difference when I picked it up after going through a tank of BP Ultimate... only 97 but I get Nectar points.

As VPower and BP were out I went to Tesco as a last-ditch. TFSIs don't like cheap fuel.

I know it gives an extra 5bhp or so when mapping!
