So some idiot stabs himself with a kitchen knife and the police send him on his way WITH HIS KNIFE!!! Just brilliant! Can anybody explain the logic here, because I'm failing to see it myself.

Not sure why the knife wasn't seized, but as it was described as "a superficial wound", treated on the scene and told to see their Dr, sounds like a sensible way to avoid an ambulance being deplyed to hospital etc.

Could all have been an unfortunate accident.

Just a logical suggestion but perhaps he stabbed himself elsewhere and didnt have the knife with him for it to be confiscated

The report says the guy stabbed himself in the underpass - suggests the knife was there with him? Why did he have the knife in the first place?

I was about to add a new topic asking that too.

Does seem odd to say the least.

However it doesnt say they sent him away with his knife. It says the knife was not seized. There are many possibilitys we are just speculating.

If he had a knife he may have been 'dangerous' so I expect they would have let him go....
After all its not the Police's job to protect the Public. wink.gif

I expect if they had clocked you doing 56 mph coming down the A339 you would not be sent on your way without any charge !! angry.gif

Not if you did it over their 3 hour lunch break period. Or one of their morning or afternoon hour long tea breaks. Basically don't do it outside Chievley services or the kebab shop and you'll probably be alright.

Call me awkward if you will but I can't help but think that there may be more to this than our dear NWN has actually reported?!

Yes, I just read the story again and it doesn't make sense.
Why would the Police allow someone, who clearly has a mental issue if he deliberately stabbed himself, leave still with the knive?
If he accidentally stabbed himself it is still questionable why he was carrying the knife and it should have been confiscated.

Perhaps Ossy1 or NWN could give an explaination or is it a "secret"

Whatever, the point is it's still a lot different to someone who is obviously unbalanced wandering around with a knife if the report is true. huh.gif

Its probably against his human rights to confiscate it until he actually stabs someone else! blink.gif
