This news article is confusing me. The headline says "Man seriously injured in A34 smash". Then the first sentence says there was a collision between a car and an HGV on the A34. However, it says later the accident was on the A339 near the Vodafone roundabout.

Sloppy reporting, or what?

It is around there that the two roads merge.

Anyway surely the important thing here is whether the poor person is going to be alright or not.

No it was the Vodafone roundabout (it says) which is nowhere near the A34.

Of course it's important whether he is alright or not, but does that preclude commenting on other aspects of the story?

huh.gif The Vodafone roundabout is about a 10 second drive from the A34. It's where traffic from the A34 comes off into Newbury.

Not being overly pedantic, but you'd better not let the police catch you driving at 450mph. wink.gif

How often have you been to the VF Roundabout? I'm there practically everyday. Sure 10 seconds was a bit of an exaggeration, but looking at google maps, it's probably about 1 mile off the A34. Which is not far at all. And when travelling at 70mph, it would take less than 1 minute to get there.

If you travelled at a 100mph you'd get there even quicker. laugh.gif

Pretty often. But let's not argue smile.gif

My original point was that this story has nothing to do with the A34.

Maybe we'll get an update on the driver's condition sometime, but sadly, someone recovering is not news.

That is true; what is news is the crash and the carnage in its wake. The aftermath is the anticlimax and by then everybody has forgotten all about it. If the out come is reported in the press everybody skims over it, unless they know the person personally. Human nature; people love disasters, deaths, murders, wars, car-crashes etc. They make programmes on it; not on how the victim turned out.
