Reading todays NWN (yes I can even read too), I see that Northbrook Street will be getting yet another "restaurant"...
As a developer has lodged a "change of use application" for the unit that is currently a Robert Dyas shop.
Ah well, I suppose that will help to mitigate the high number of daily deaths of those who die of hunger or malnutrition whilst walking in Northbrook Street!
Best Wishes to all.,
Do you think the application should be refused? Consumer choice is a bad thing?
If there is sufficient demand the business will succeed. That's market forces.
Would people prefer another empty shop? (There are over 40 in central Newbury already).
Or perhaps there should be a Council-enforced State quota of restaurants? Serving National Dinners Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 4?
It is the coffee houses and restaurants that are keeping the High Streets alive. Shops are increasingly becoming redundant.
