QUOTE (On the edge @ May 31 2013, 05:53 PM) Aaah thanks for that illuminating response! Most of the meat in my Tesco burger was beef! Any thoughts on what kept the vast majority away from the polling station? Give you a clue, they aren't all over the moon with NDC, LOL, sure......

QUOTE (user23 @ May 31 2013, 05:38 PM) That's right, whilst the party of the most vocal critic was pushed down to an embarrassing fourth place and last place. You think it was embarrassing? And to be 'pushed down' would suggest that their position has been higher. I am certain that had those two stood for the two main parties with exactly the same manifesto, they would have come in higher. It's a moot point anyway as most people don't care.

They were third before, they came fourth in the latest election. That's a drop of one place, to last. Yiu should probably post something about a straw man next.

Are you talking about the Victoria ward election just gone? I don't remember Labour saying much at all to criticise the Town Council, though I may be mistaken, and Labour finished sixth and last, it was a Tory who came in fourth.

QUOTE (dannyboy @ May 31 2013, 12:31 PM) Not to mention the significant sum spent in Goldwell Park. You're usually pretty good with things like this - but isn't Goldwell Park owned and managed by WBC and not NTC? And not that it has any bearing, but isn't the work going on in Goldwell Park to do with the Newbury Flood Alleviation Scheme, so mainly funded by the Environment Agency and nothing to do with amenity and leisure?

I don't care who runs the park. As you are so keen to point out NTC get their cash via WBC.... At the end of the day the local 'powers that be' have completely replaced the kids / todlers play area adjacent to the recreation centre. They even replaced the fence around it. That last little tit bit alone should have had the nay sayers champing at the bit. The flood alleviation work in the park is at a standstill because, err, the water levels have been to high. But I notice that the EA has dumped about 200 tonnes of imported cobbles into the Kennet just by the Sally Army charity shop in the last week. Looks superb. Not.

I hear your pain, but I don't see what any of that has to do with the potential maladministration of the cracks snafu. On the Kennet thing - I understand the cobbles are temporary just to provide a working platform, though I may be wrong.

I don't remember Labour saying much at all to criticise the Town Council, though I may be mistaken, and Labour finished sixth and last, it was a Tory who came in fourth. I suspect user23 now is busy dreaming up some distorted truth to back up his claim. This is how I understand the last two elections went in Victoria. Getting information is a little tricky from our rather dour local websites. It would seem that the winners of the 2013 election received roughly half the votes of the out-going councillors. 2013PAYTON, Alexander (Lib Dem) – 335 votes – Elected UDUWERAGE-PERERA, Ruwan (Lib Dem) – 315 votes – Elected
BOWLER, Malcolm (Con) – 292 votes FAIRBROTHER, Stuart (Con) – 279 votes FARROW Charlie (Apolitical) 158 votes BUTLER, Kate (Lab) – 148 votes YATES, David (Apolitical) 136 votes PUFFETT, Gary (Lab) 130 votes 2011ALLEN David Liberal Democrats ELECTED 696 BANSAL Mukesh Liberal Democrats ELECTED 621 SALTER Liz Liberal Democrats ELECTED 600 O'KEEFFE Elizabeth Liberal Democrats ELECTED 589
BASTIEN Pauline Conservatives NOT ELECTED 516 MOFFAT David Conservative NOT ELECTED 512 HANCOCK Pearl Conservatives NOT ELECTED 442 SMITHSON June Conservatives NOT ELECTED 437 SEMPLE Sean Robert Labour Party NOT ELECTED 184 REID David Apolitical Democrats NOT ELECTED 140 WALLACE Iain Robert Michael Apolitical Democrats NOT ELECTED 107 BELL Aaron Kristopher Apolitical Democrats NOT ELECTED 98 FARROW Alexander Apolitical Democrats NOT ELECTED 98

it does have to do with other posts made after though. I don't think it's sunk in that this sort of thread is driving away new punters from this place.

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ May 31 2013, 08:25 PM) A candid and sincere opinion would do. okay, I'll say it again - IMHO - a study was done, at the behest of residents, posters on this very forum & NTC itseslf. but and ( no surprise here ) it was inconclusive. It it had been cast iron, NTC would have managed to extract, as Costain had done with the groundwater, compo from the contactor responsible. Because a multi million £ contractor can hire better lawyers that a tin pot local council the case is closed. pretty straight forward & bleeding obvious. no cloak & dagger, no deals & no snafu.

QUOTE (dannyboy @ May 31 2013, 08:32 PM) pretty straight forward & bleeding obvious. no cloak & dagger, no deals & no snafu. Except a council that will not admit to it. Although it seems to me rather strange that data that show nothing conclusivel should be kept secret.
