I heard a rumour today. The substance of this was that the newly appointed 21 (?) parking wardens / enforcement officers, employed by West Berks Council at the cost of the tax payer (that'll be you and me folks), are payed in the region of 19k per annum each. Not too sure how I feel about this but by my reckoning (basic though it may be) that's at least £400,000.00 per year, assuming that the number is 21, and also not including training and equipement and uniform costs...............!

i dont think 19k is enough for the amount of abuse they get from arrogant Newburyites. They also walk around the all weathers so why shouldn'\t they get paid well? they're only doing a job after all.
Also bear in mind that the national average wage is close to #24k. will you lot just shut up! and another thing, WBC was wasting tax payers money paying useless traffic wardens from the police before the green lot took over so I think they are good value. I oay for residents parking and I can always find a space. LONG LIVE THE WARDENS!! |

Any way it is calculated now, these "civil enforcement officers" are costing the taxpayers money. They are collecting less than they cost. This was confimed by WBC stating something to the effect of "more fines need to be issued to cover the CEO costs". If money isn't the issue and having West Berkshire residents parking rules strictly enforced, then they could be considered good value. My view is that there are too many of them for the types and numbers of penalties thay are issuing. |
