QUOTE (Darren @ Jun 9 2010, 12:11 PM) http://www.newburytoday.co.uk/News/Article...articleID=13545I'll be there for the grand opening. Oh, and it is 2010, not 1910? I saw the sign the other day. It made me look twice! Maybe it's part of WBC Thatcham Regeneration plan? In all seriousness this would be a disaster for the local area.

I love this comment: Thatcham resident, Margaret Hall said that she noticed it recently when walking through the town centre. She said: "That's the last thing we need here. There are children in Thatcham and we just don't want that." Do we have towns where Children are not allowed to Live? If someone could point me in this direction I'd be happy!

I recall similar hysteria when Ann Summers opened in Newbury however it hardly gets a mention now and certainly hundreds of children go past it each week. Also the tacky christmas shop was selling all sorts of sexually orientated junk but no one objected to that and children had free access to that. Provided that the shop window is not explicit in it's display, what's the problem? I'm sure old boys will not be being massaged in the window by young nubile ladies.

I love it that the article mentions how Generic Outraged Resident Simon Hall insisted he was not a prude.......
That's like one of those sentences that starts: "I'm not racist but........"
I'm not particularly into the idea of going to a "massage parlor" but nothing makes me more annoyed at West Berkshire's small town mentality than when people say things like "it would be a disaster for the local area"
Grow up.
It's like the banning of The Life of Brian all over again.

Also, a sex shop would not be top of my list of "last things that Thatcham needs". I'm not sure what would, but an outbreak of bubonic plague or an infestation of rabid badgers would certainly appear higher in the list than a sex shop.

Although they did quietly move the bus stop down a few doors... I just love the way the 'moral minority' come running out from behind their respectable suburban net curtains to be shocked and outraged. I wonder if they'll take luncheon vouchers?

QUOTE (Good Boy Racer @ Jun 10 2010, 12:05 PM) I'm sorry but this frustrates me... I couldn't care if this shop goes ahead. If i didn't like it, i wouldn't go in!!!
Its like when people complain about something on TV for e.g. Britains Got Talent with that man who swallowed objects and brought them back up again... if you don't like it!!! Turn it off!
There are kids everywhere, they will sooner or later learn about the Birds and the Bee's. These days kids know everything at the age of 12!
So yes, Grow up Britain. The worry that some people like Ms Hall have is that they will have it thrust in their face.
