Newbury Today Forum _ Newbury News _ A new venture for ladies size 16+ in Newbury.

Posted by: bbwsouth Mar 3 2011, 01:46 PM

Just wanted to let you know about a new venture I have started in Newbury. I will be organising social events eg parties, pamper days etc for ladies who are a size 16+ and the men who adore them.
It is often hard for bigger girls to feel comfortable socialising in regular venues so I am aiming to provide a size friendly environment where everyone is respected and welcomed.
If you would like to attend one of my events please visit my website www.bbwsouth.co.uk and become a member (free!) to keep updated on the progress of my project, make new friends and maybe even find love!!
Thank you for allowing me to put this out to some more people in Newbury. I have had such positive feedback so far and want to welcome as many people as possible.
Kind regards
Sarah

Perhaps a diet is in order? I don't mean to be rude but smokers are told to stop smoking so perhaps overweight people should stop eating so much???

Posted by: Roost Mar 4 2011, 12:39 PM

and if you're a overweight smoker, you're screwed!

Is size 16 over-weight?

Not if you are married to her....... tongue.gif

I suppose we should not really poke fun, as for many it is a serious issue, and diet is not the sole - or core - issue.

Yes. There BMI would probably classify them as obese. All I am saying is that overweight people are as much as a burden on the NHS as smokers but smokers pay extra tax and chubbers do not. Perhaps if you are clinically obese you should pay an extra tax on'fat' food?? I know this is not 'PC' but why are one section of society treated differently to others?

Posted by: dannyboy Mar 4 2011, 01:04 PM

I was wondering if there was a Lingerie catalogue myself.

Posted by: Andy Capp Mar 4 2011, 01:08 PM

Smokers might be a burden on the NHS, but they pay far more tax than they receive in care. Overweight is more complex than simply being gutty. It is the people that can control their weight that are abnormal. We are programmed to seek food, unfortunately modern living standards conspire against natures will. Meanwhile; even 'overweight' people need clothes to dress too, even if they are on a diet.

Is this cover for some sort of chubby swingers night? I think we should be told

Posted by: Rosewinelover Mar 4 2011, 02:00 PM

I can not believe how rude some of you have been in replying. Ever heard the old saying 'If you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say nothing at all'.

I would not class a size 16 as 'fat' or 'overweight' in most cases. TDH you really do have a thing about overwight people and the NHS.....find that really odd, considering it is probably more liklely costing the NHS more on helping drug/alcohol abuse than anything.

Good Luck with your new venture Sarah.

I do not begrudge paying tax on it. I do however thing that smokers are treated as 'lepers' and that overweight people are fawned upon and told that it's not their fault by do gooders. They put the stuff in their mouths. Thats why they are overweight. This subject does actually 'get my goat' rosewinelover and I respect you. Again I ask Smokers more than pay for their diseases. A gastric by pass is still I believe free on the NHS if you are fat enough? In fact some people are encouraged to put MORE weight on to qualify.

I think you should start a new thread about this (if you wish) because I think this is really unfair to the ladies (1st ever) post.

Posted by: Simon Mar 4 2011, 03:15 PM

What confuses me is that when a student posted on here a while back he received a lot of abuse about forums not being the place to promote/advertise his small business (copying video to dvd) and yet this posting has received nothing but support.

I have had a look at the website and this seems to be a business too

Is it one rule for one and one for another on here?

The student was promoting a service that was possibly illegal.

It is, as the copyright license on the Video would have explained. The DVD created is a pirate copy, regardless of continued use of the video.

No it was HOME movies - ones recorded on a video camera of your family friends ect. There is no copyright on that.

Not that it really matters as he was not getting stick for it being possibly illegal, people were going off on one about this is not the place to advertise your business.

I do not know any of these people but thought i would mention it. I felt sorry for the student at the time as he didnt deserve the remarks he got

Winge over

well, you'd have to be pretty daft to be offering to copy any other kind of VHS tapes.

WOW unbelievable comments form you TDH I am surprised. I am overweight and I do not constantly eat. I have a sandwich or salad for lunch and probably a child's portion for my dinner. I don't eat cakes or chocolate and only have one cup of coffee per day and the rest of the time it is water.

As for you being a smoker YOU STINK literally really stink and the smell of a person who is or has been smoking is one of the worst smells to me and yes I am an EX SMOKER of 5 years and am very proud of that but don't you dare tar all overweight people with the same brush about being obsessive eaters.

I wish this venture good luck.

So if someone copies their home movies from VHS to DVD, they are breaching their own copyright?

So you eat nothing and are overweight? Interesting. Perhaps you should exercise then? You must be overweight for a reason. As for me stinking. Lovely comments. I expect I don't have BO though like most overweight people.... Perhaps when you smoked you were not overweight and since you have stopped you comfort eat????

I have nothing against you or overweight people. You are just confirming my point that it is better in this 'society' to be an overweight 'chubber' than a 'puffing billy'. And the 'puffing billies' pay through the nose.

I am actually crippled with arthritis and therefore can not exercise so yes my obesity is down to not exercising... not overeating as you keep assuming !!

It's called being a human being, but beyond that, there are conditions like hypothyroidism, HRT, polycystic ovary syndrome , genetics, etc.

I don't exercise much and am not overweight... perhaps its just that you have a 'slow metabolism' - thats the normal excuse. Genuinely sorry though about your circumstances with arthritis. I do know how bad that can be.

No one said anything about smoking until you had already had been rude, and as it happens, smokers do stink. I rarely meet anyone with genuine BO. And one I did recently, was 'skinny'. I stopped smoking because it is expensive , stupid and smells. Not to mention dangerous. I can live without ever smoking a cigarette.

I used to be a size 6 and then the arthritis got progressively worse and the exercise less and less and the weight piled on so I have been thin and I am now not nothing I can do about it....... but I chose to smoke that was the difference for me it was my choice as it is yours. I apologise for saying you stink as I am now tarring you with the same brush not all smokers smell of stale cigarettes but you can't insult others when you don't know their circumstances.

Care to back that up with some figures? Unfortunatly those who are stupid enough to smoke suffer from all sorts of health problems far earlier anf for much longer than those of us with the sense not to. Also you cost millions of pounds to clear up after, millions in lost productivity and millions ion damages to property where you make everything stink, and think it is OK to have a crafty one out the window, or in a doorway. The only thing that is good is that natural selections means the stupid people who choose to smoke end up in a box quicker than the rest of us.

The point about the studednt was that his business was illegal in as much as it wasn't registered, and he was not paying tax on his earnings. My point at the time was also that I did not think the forum should be used for promoting a business, however the majority (at the time) disagreed so I accept that people don't mind, so haven't made the same point about this one.

Businesses do not have to be 'registered, and there is no tax liability if annual taxable earnings don't cross the threshold. Many (students) work without paying tax perfectly legally.

Thinking about this, size 16 can mean a multitude of things.

Clearly, these ladies need vetting to make sure they're big enough. Perhaps they could hire a 'chubby checker'?

Thing is though, whilst mostly insensitive, the majority of posts on this thread are opinions, thoughts and feelings on the topic itself. The vitriol you spew out is just verbal diarrhoea with no point meaning or worth.

I am not in the slightest bit ashamed ! True, there are people with genuine reasons for being overweight but the majority are just over indulgent - pure and simple. Some people smoke, drink, take drugs or overeat - pretty much all of us have at least one "vice".

Like I said before if there was a slim ladies club there would be a public outcry (from overweight people)

I have yet to see YOU have "a good debate" on this Forum - infact it is constant bickering and nit picking that puts people off. You didn't have to balls to outright say you thought Simon was a liar, you just implied it, it's there in black and white. You are badgering certain members of this forum for no apparent reason, in an almost childlike pestering kind of way. My comment "fat birds" was a shock tactic to divert the thread back on topic - once you have of course finished whinging.

Derivatives of 'fatty' is rude and unpleasant, but calling someone a liar, especially in public, is far worse behaviour.

ok he is allways talking about self managment but on our allotment I dont know anyone who is in favour of it. He talks about when he set up the allotment society. The tenents that didn't want to join were cast aside and the ones that joined were dictated to because he was chairman. He wanted to build a society shed, only so he could put it in a competition. He keeps saying that he could save £100.000, this started off as £40.000 at one stage. This is all my opinion and i may be wrong but things just dont add up. In my opinion he just wants power over the allotments. Now I am going to bed. Maybe chat tommorrow.

Hit the nail on the head and that is why I raised it. Smokers are pariahs and 'stink'. We contribute a net £6 billion a year in taxes (after deductions for our obvious ill health). Obese people are fawned upon and told it's 'not there fault'. They are 'big boned' and have a 'slow metabolism'. You cannot say it as it is and just say - you eat too much (which more often than not they do) as you will hurt there 'feelings'. Smokers of course don't have feelings and are leopars. Obese people are a major burden on the NHS. Just as much as smokers are and they do not pay any extra tax.

Posted by: Bofem Mar 10 2011, 12:43 PM

So scrap the NHS and leave them alone. It's none of anyone's business is it, whether I want to smoke 20 Marlboro or eat 20 doughnuts

I agree Bofem but people DO make it their business with smokers. It's a matter of what's seen to be ok 'to have a go at'.

Posted by: NWNREADER Mar 10 2011, 12:57 PM

While being PC is not my strong point, it is an individuals right (as opposed to wright) to be treated reasonably. OK for a 3rd party complaint, but if the so-called victim doesn't care a fig then the issue is not clear cut.

Maybe bbwsouth was offended and now fears to come back on. Maybe the debate around the 'banter' is accepted as good publicity, so worthe the price. Maybe she is laughing her socks off.

No-one should speak for the victim unless they are unable to stand up for themself, otherwise if someone objects then they do it on their own behalf.

As I said before smokers cost far more in tax than just the NHS costs.

Yep, there's the cost of clearing up their filth also.

lets just gas all fat, smoking or drinking people and have done with it !

The perfect solution to global warming.

What I suspect is the case, if smokers stopped smoking and everyone started eating 'sensibly', there would be people out of work and the government would have to get tax from somewhere else. I also fear we could have food shortages (seeing as processed food is one of the components of obesity), which would also put prices up.

Yes I am deeply offended by the general response to my post.
I am sorry if I offended anyone by posting it.
I started the venture because a size 16 friend of mine refused to ever come out as she always felt very self concious and had no confidence. I started it merely as a way of encouraging larger ladies to get out and about; see that they could get out and do things, maybe meet men, make new friends, start looking after themselves more, joining the exercise class etc
It certainly is NOT a fetish site and I fail to see how that was suspected. Men who striclty find women who are a size 8 are not considered to have a fetish, so why are men who like ladies who are a size 18?
Having read this whole thread through I now understand exactly why my friend feels the way she does. I suppose being six foot tall, size 10 feet and a size 24 I am a total freak in all your books and should be gassed immediatly before I become a burden on society.
I apologise again if I have offended anyone by posting and therefore ask the administrators to delete the thread.
Thank you to those who wished me luck, but I am now re-considering whether the venture is worth it after this response.
Thank you fellow newbury friends for making me feel very sad.
Sarah

Take no notice of us cynical old lot? If we can poke fun of anything we always will? You certainly have not offended me and I am sure no one meant to offend you? You obviously think it is a good idea so go for it and I wish you luck. Nothing ventured nothing gained? As long as you have your health and are happy in life then that is the best we can ask for. rolleyes.gif

I don't think you should let a few people on here deny a service that possibly many people would find useful. Like it or not, people need sizes that you would cater for.

So no apology to Sarah just a snide remark. Thats why there are not many people who use this forum. This forum could be a great way to give out info from all sorts of people in Newbury but i think they look at this and think no way do they want to get involved with it

Unfortunately life is not full of sweetness? Just look at the remarks you made about Simon on another thread?
No good getting all upset if forum members have a view that disagrees with yours? If you are unable to take the banter that comes your way on the forum then, yes, don't get involved. Give as good as you get? If you have something to say then say it, just remember though others may be totally opposed to you and show it in very different ways but hey that's what a forums all about surely? wink.gif

Unfortunately Sarah there are a number of people on this forum who see it as their right or duty to be offensive to others. Its not a particularly friendly place to be sometimes.

Posted by: Bofem Mar 13 2011, 10:18 AM

Sarah, I think the moral of the story is not to be naive on these forums.

I remember on another site, a woman pushing her cancer charity fun run, which opened up a can of worms about whether cancer charities are worthwhile causes. Naturally, she was upset as she was doing it to honour a family member.

Facebook would have been more appropriate so you have control of content and can target your audience through advertising. So I wouldn't spend too long being offended, just learn from this and move on.

I hope your venture works out for you....but beware of white knights with black eyes!

Posted by: Strafin Mar 13 2011, 11:05 AM

Come on then Gardeb and Panda - what do I have to apologise for? Once again it is the ones who claim to be whiter than white who are throwing the accusations around and bullying people.

Sarah,

I assumed that you and possibly your potential customers might have <ahem....> thicker skin?

Don't take things so seriously for goodness sake.... And just because you might not have received wholehearted endorsement for your venture from a small number of posters on this site, I would suggest that is a pretty poor reason for carrying it through if there's a market for it..... Let's face it.... while I might not be tempted to shop there, my missus might...

Posted by: Strafin Mar 13 2011, 07:36 PM

Another question avoided by Panda then. I would have thought people are more likely to stop using the site because of you and your daft, irrational, bullying and downright rude comments.
