And an anti-consumerism advocate like you are pleased with that?

The place is already being built. It would be a real waste of resources if it were to lay half filled.

When have I said I'm 'anti consumerism'?

You must be thinking of something specific?

I have said that I think high street retail is doomed, but only because everyone will be buying online.

So is that half full or half empty? tongue.gif

Kennet center will be more or less empty when the Parkway opens won't it? Remember the financial cuts will not take effect until well into next year? I predict a lot more shops will be going to the wall it will be tough to try and keep going with the sort of overheads that are required to keep solvent in Parkway?

One that springs to mind is the your fantasy regards a country without an economy. As the economy is underpinned by consumerism...

But he is not suggesting a country without an economy - just that more shopping will be done online and hence that fewer shops will be needed.

I'm not talking about the above, but another discussion altogether.

I don't want it, never did and never will. The Kennet Centre should of been given a makeover instead. The market is already a dying death and it will be even more so when no one will be shopping in that end of town. I still see Newbury as a market town, it is being turned into something it's not now.

How ungrateful! Local architects Claddit & Run spent literally minutes on that design. I'm with db, it's going to be a masterpiece.

I was only in the Camp's cafe the other day thinking how much better the view is. Who wants to look across the park anyway? The new M&S loading bay has much more going on.

Yes yes, I know it's 10% bigger than expected, the park's knackered, the neighbouring buildings are cracked, the road's closed, the shop rents are going up, the car park's were given away, the £3m of town improvements have been dropped, the workmen aren't local, and it's two years late.

But for goodness sake woman, when you've got your John Lewis scatter cushions, you'll be grateful.
