Anyone else think that Scrambling Tornados and shipping Armoured Vehicles from N.Ireland is a little OTT to deal with one suicidal maniac with a shotgun?

Seems like a waste of money and resources to me. I think some of the people at the top appear to have become a little bit media 'I want to be famous' driven. Especially that Woman that looks like Maggie Thatcher. Fast tracked I expect and promoted above her abilities.

As my dear old dad used to say when he hired and fired hundreds of people. If you can't sack them you keep the good ones and promote the useless ones away from your area.

Yes, it did seem a littleexcessive however he was intent on killing police officers so maybe that would make them very nervous.

Yes, that particular lady did not fill me with confidence and demonstrated a degree of ineptitude.

I don't think you can "sack" someone from public office anymore. At the very least you have to make them redundant.

From the time he shot the policeman to the time he died, no-one else was harmed. What price for life?

I understand that he threatened the general public as well.

A most strange tale was this. i followed it carefully from the outset and there were a quite a few discrepancies both in the police statements and the media reporting.

single example. At the start of the event, days one and two, interviews with local people threw up quotes like "He was decent bloke, Loved his kids Good neighbour Always helpful to others around "

Day three - No more interviews with locals were broadcast - just quotes from more remote people who said things like - I dont know him but i think he is mad,

Anyway, after the fighter bombers, helicopters and armoured cars I was distraught that the navy were not allowed to bring a battleship up the local river.

Aren't they supposed to have planes with heat sensors on them to detect warm bodies?

Randomly scanning 10s of squares miles of the northumbrian countryside hoping to see 'warm bodies' would be an exercise in futility. It's like New Zealand up there, with something like ten sheep for every human in the 'wilder parts'. Lots of 'warm bodies' to discount.....

Yep along with warm bodies of every animal roaming the field so if at night all these heat sources have to be checked out, a mamouth task.

As for the post about interviews. There was a press release recently that said he made a threat to the public if the press continued to print inaccurate stories about him so they agreed to a black out! Hence no more interviews or details about him.

What is very sad in this situation is everyone has something to say about him or the police but no one seems to say anything about his victims they appear to have been forgotten whilst the murderer is bigged up as some sort of national hero.

It's funny the other week when that other guy was roaming about shooting the public, not a huge amount of police were involved, but an adequate amount who did the job. A copper get's shot and suddenly all the police we never see usually are mobilised 24/7 until Moat is dead. And it still took them a week.

Are you suggesting it was deliberate to make life easier for everybody? But then we can't argue with your insight, after all you are a police officer wink.gif

I suppose I'll now get a visit from the police and the next time you hear from me I'll be floating in the River Avon. ph34r.gif

OK. This guy shoots three people, killing one>>> He is then on the run with a couple of guns and no one in the village (which includes a number of children) fees safe. He has just got out of prison..... Why then are his family allowed to go to the police complaints commission because they believe he only did this because "he was depressed". I have suffered depression but did not go around shooting people !! I have lost a loved one to another - but did not go around shooting people. And he was good friends with Gazza how did that come about? Saw an interview this morning with his "best friend". Asked when he last saw Moat "just before he went in prison" then asked "did you visit him in prison" answer "no" question "did you see him when he got out" reply "no I was pulling a late shift" if that is a best friend bring on my worst one....

Sickening how his family now crawling out of woodwork defending their murdering familiy member, and how cruel police & media were.

I'm not sure that's right. It seems to me they are questioning whether the police could have performed better and whether any more bloodshed was avoidable

QUOTE (gel @ Jul 12 2010, 10:32 PM) *
Strikes me Police were far too patient, and I'd expect if police come across someone with a weapon, that if he/she ignored their request to drop weapon & surrender, they'd be authorised to use lethal force.

That's how they might do it in the States. We've also had people killed who were mentally challenged and were armed only with a pieces of wood.

QUOTE (gel @ Jul 12 2010, 10:32 PM) *
And I see Gazza attended as he was his mate; yes what combined brainpower that was. blink.gif

Yes, another sad moment.

I would imagine there would be a number of police that would rather have had a better out-come, particularly the Chief.

way I understand it a) it's 'standard practice' for any death following police contact to get referred to the IPCC and cool.gif Northumbria police referred both the death and investigation to the IPCC themselves.

I do love the way the press have bigged up the fact that the IPCC is involved if it is indeed 'standard practice'!

And the terminally brain-dead of the North-West are actually laying wreaths of flowers (still wrapped in cellophane, of course) at the site where this murderer shot himself.

Jeez!
