Last night was a fitting tribute to a dedicated footballer and captain.
He and his wife, Karen, work tirelessly for charity and he will be
most sadly missed by all at Reading Football Club. All the very best
of luck and come back soon!

Yes... I agree.

Graeme Murty, who plays as a right back, was a dedicated player. He made over 400 appearances in the Football League playing for York City, Reading and Charlton Athletic. We also mustn’t forget that Murty, who was born in England, qualifies to play for Scotland (because of links through his family). He has been capped four times by Scotland, with his first coming against Wales in 2004. A fine player.

I'm a huge admirer but couldn't of rattled off the stats like you did.

Only joshing anyway GMR.

His appearances on MOTD etc were very informative and i hope the BBC continue to use him.

His work for Swings and smiles is excellent too.

There is no problem with joshing my friend. We need a tickle inbetween serious tete-a-tete.

As for the rest laugh.gif

As you know, or maybe not, I am actually a Spurs supporter (on top of that many years ago I used to be a football writer). But I do follow Reading and would love to see them go up. Them and Chelsea I regard as my second team; jointly.

No!

I've supported Chelsea since I was a lad and used to go to Elm Park a lot as I couldn't always afford to get to the Bridge.

Am taking my son to Madejski on August 1st for Reading v Chelsea friendly.

ps I was serious about MOTD and even more so about Swing and Smiles , a very worthy charity.

pps. Spurs? tongue.gif

I only watched Match of the Day when Spurs were playing so I've never seen him on there. However, in the 90's i was interviewed on MOTD with two others; even though I was shown they cut out what I said. sad.gif It was the time Ossie was manager.

Who do you want to win out of Reading v Chelsea?

First London match I ever saw was Chelsea v The New York Cosmos. Many famous names where playing for them at the time; Cosmos. The match ended 2-2. It was a friendly.

Last time I checked Spurs were still in The Prem so have always been on MOTD.

Chelsea (always).

There was only 1 Ossie (R.I.P.).

First London match I saw live Chelsea v Man City on my 10th birthday.

Until Sky Global League comes along Chelsea v New York Cosmos will always be a friendly laugh.gif

Yes - but I am not talking about just the goals but an extended match. If Spurs lost then I might have had second thoughts.

yes; there is only one Ozzie... Ozzie Ardiles... not yet dead though laugh.gif

Was that before the war or after? wink.gif

We could have been talking about a trophy match which does happen. To be honest I don't think New York Cosmos exist any more.

How can you be a supporter, and have TWO second teams, I don't think that's possible. I think that at the point you are supporting three teams you have slipped over and become a fan of football. Nothing wrong with that of course, but the two are different.

Good point.

I've always been a spurs supporter all my life. Chelsea I've always liked and used to go to the bridge quite a few times to see Spurs play there (and I saw them before I saw Spurs play). As for Reading; they are sort of a local team so I do like them to do well; unless they are playing Spurs, of course. That maybe not much of an answer but it is the best I've got laugh.gif

I think it is possible to support a number of teams, but have a favourite; I see nothing ambiguous in that. I used to go and 'support' Southampton and have been to 'support' Reading, but I wouldn't say I'm a fan of either, I just liked to see them do well when playing a neutral team. Being pedantic, I differentiate between supporters and fans. Fans don't necessarily go and watch their teams and supporters are people that cheer a team on. A supporter isn't necessarily a fan though. I would imagine there were plenty of scouse supporters of Barcelona for this years UEFA Champions League Cup final.

Maybe. I do know people who claim to support more than one team and I wonder what happens when they play each other. I'd implode I think if I tried it!

If Spurs play either Reading or Chelsea I want Spurs to win; all the time. If Reading play Chelsea I would like Chelsea to win, however, if Reading should do it then I am delighted for them. My main loyalty is to Spurs as I have had so many great years with them; i.e. being a season ticket holder, going to Wembley to watch them and writing for Spurs magazines. Plus I've supported them all my life.

Chelsea fan myself, lifelong. Saw a lot of Spurs games in the early running at the Bridge (guess my Dad wanted to make sure I saw a lot of Chelsea wins tongue.gif ).

Actually saw the boys last night at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena against Inter. 81,000 plus in the stadium. Was a little worse the wear from the heat and beer by the time the game kicked off though - stood with Tommy Langley and Steve Finnieston (Jock) who were doing some promo stuff with the tour. Seats right over the players tunnel, close enough you could see Sheva's roots.

Nice to give old Jose a little clap which he seemed to appreciate.

On topic, Murty's a good lad and gave a lot back to the community - glad to hear he had a good testimonial.
