I have just returned from a visit to see Sir Stanley Spencer's artworks that are on tour
whilst the Sandham Memorial Chapel in Burghclere is being refurbished.

The exhibition is at Somerset House at present but moves to Chichester from mid February.
A great visit well complemented by the fabulous surroundings. Work is finishing in July 2014.

Youth is wasted on the young.... I spent years running round the grounds of my prep school 2 miles away,
pretending to be a Spitfire. The building I used to be driven past for many years, turns out to be Grade 1 listed.
I always thought it looked like a toilet block.

A plus point in my favour is that I tried to visit on a jaunt to the Newtown Swan in July 2013
I was staying in a pub opposite for goodness sake. Closed on a Monday. mellow.gif

Once they are all back home I would certainly like to have another try to visit.
I would certainly suggest adding it to a to-do list, for others.

Shame to say I've never visited. I should.

I paid a visit a few years ago and was impressed with the interior and also the lady who looks after the place and lives on site.
