ELECTRICAL APPLIANCE REPAIRS:

I have extended warranty on a TESCO brand toaster and it needs a repair.
Insurers suggest I take to a local shop; ages ago used OLIVE of Newbury for such tasks;
anyone know if such a repairer still exists?

tks

Pop in to Toomers while they may not do it I'm sure they will know who can. Most small repair shops have now folded their tents as these items are now considered disposable. Which is both a shame and a waste.

Assume you obtained the extended warranty from Tesco's so why not take it back to them

Well there's an example of a warranty plan that isn't worth the paper it was printed on. rolleyes.gif I'm surprised their extended warranty puts the onus back on you the customer, but there it is in black and white in the small print nobody bothers to look at.. They even build in a depreciation clause for goods
https://www.tesco.com/direct/electrical-war.../?source=others

Suggest your only hope is getting an online quote confirming that it's uneconomical to repair. "If We decide that the product is uneconomical to repair We will offer You a cash settlement equal to the current value."

Curry's implied their extended warranty was pretty much a swap in store. (Never took one out so don't know if they have a small print get-out)

In future buy at Costco. One of my friends has bought virtually all of their household items at Costco. Buy an item once and it seems it's on a perpetual replacement if it goes kaput. In the past 12 years plus she's replaced the washing machine, drier and dishwasher three times yet only paid when she initially bought the items. Didn't even need to keep the receipt as the onus is on Costco to maintain their records and show that she bought the items ages back, and with their 'no quibble' guarantee she takes everything back whenever she wants, including toasters...

I have to laugh sometimes, I buy something get to the till and they automatically say "are you interested in the extended warranty sir"? " no ta" 15 seconds of shocked silence before "why not"?, " er, cos if it goes wrong at this price I'll buy another" "Oh yeah right". Best deal around is a TV from john lewis five year no quibble guaranteed. Job done.

Thanks all.
Hopefully insurers will not ask for it to be posted to their nominated repairers
and offer me settlement in full ie to value of original purchase smile.gif
Collected from local Tesco but was a buy from Tesco Direct as was extended insurance who you deal with for claims once 12 months has past.

Please, let us know how you get on with this.

The insurers "Square Trade" will refund cost of replacement on return of old product,
which they'll be arranging.
They have a UK office, with main HO in one of my favourite cities, SAN FRANCISCO.
However, surprise, surprise call centre who rang today on this are in Pakistan.

And?

Touchy, touchy I presume. Pat that Airedale.
Rather not be dealing with country with a poor honesty reputation/ links to
acts of terror, when it involves things financial.
Strangely no mention of this when you're buying product!
