Last night, which was overcast, I noticed a strange green glow in the sky to the North of Newbury, giving the cloud cover the appearance of a hazy green mist.

A relative could also see it from south Newbury when I alerted them.

Obviously not the moon, so I assumed it might be due to the green laser that Harwell sometimes points into the sky.

Out of curiousity, I called Harwell today, who tell me they haven't used the laser in the sky since June.

Any ideas?

Thanks for that Jeff.

It had crossed my mind that it might be aurora borealis, but the glow seemed static and we are rather far south for that.

I have never heard of airglow, but it fits the description, though it must have been bright to have been visible through the hazy clouds.
