England's next world cup qualifier will be on the Internet only; not sky or terrestrial.

Not only that but there will be a chart of £4.99 to watch it.

And 9.99 from Thursday and 11.99 on the day.

Also no highlight programme planned. Absolute disgrace!

Even though we've already qualified.

It's also extremely unfair to those that don't have a PC with Broadband connection.
Who comes up with these dumb ideas.
Vote with your feet boys and don't watch it!!

I read that Setanta had the rights before they went under, ESPN didn't want it and none of the other UK broadcasters were willing to pay what was being asked, so some Streaming company got the rights end. I agree it's crazy

Not only that: I have broadband connections and I watch the Spurs games (free) but the quality isn't that good and the connection keeps breaking. So it won't be worth paying for it.

I wonder if Radio will cover it?

I listened to one of the chief Executives of the FA and he said he doesn't know how it will affect the advertisements/ sponsors.

The FA also said they only had the rights when England were playing at home; away matches are not under their control.

Yes, Setanta had the original rights.

Just have to listen to the radio instead and use your imagination. Back to square one, as they say.

That's what happened. ITV picked up all the England home friendlies from Setanta but they had no obligation for the away matches, which are usually worked out with the individual football federations.

Personally I think it's an interesting experiment and may change the way we watch football.

I think a TV station would have bought the rights if we hadn't already qualified for the World Cup.

Probably, however it's still a competitive match and ITV show meaningless friendlies so I'm surprised they didn't pick up the rights to it. The football federation of Ukraine were probably asking too much for them.

I think its a fantastic idea.

Those of us who loathe football will not have it forced on our TV schedules or at bars.

More of it I say.

So, what TV programmes do you like to watch then Blake and would you be happy if you had to pay to do so on the internet?

Also in the current economical climate many pubs are struggling and one thing that still fills them up is live sport especially England football matches.

We all 'loathe' something so if we all took that attitude there would be nothing on the box. Even though you don't like football it wouldn't be on every channel so you can always switch over or try reading a book. wink.gif

It's not forced on there, there's quite a few people who want it there.

Notwithstanding it'll be on a dodgy channel somewhere for the backstreet pubs!

Surely you don't begrudge people the right to watch what they want - or aren't there enough t.v. channels for you already? I cannot claim to be too keen on soccer but it's not as if we just have two or three channels nowadays. In respect of 'at bars' - I presume you mean boozers, why go to one that shows sports on a screen if you don't like it?

I think his wife is a football fan and he has to do as he is told; therefore it would be preferable - for him - that it wasn't on any channel. wink.gif
