QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Nov 2 2012, 01:14 PM) Does that include the times when (hopefully never) your home is on fire, a relative is badly injured, or your home is being flooded? In that case, wouldn't you ask for help? If I phone the fire brigade that's an emergency, for example. But I don't need "health warnings" about heatwaves (summer days) or "extreme frost" (it's 2 degrees). I am (and I'm sure as is everyone) capable of knowing when they are cold or warm and don't need a posh man in a cheap suit to tell us to put suncream on or wear some wooly knickers.

I think you missed the point. Warnings are issued in the hope some people can be warned against dangers they might not be aware of and therefore prevent stressing the emergency services.

I understand what you're saying "eg flood warnings" - that's fair enough and people should be alerted! But for things like "heatwaves" then I think it's a bit nanny-state.

QUOTE (dannyboy @ Nov 2 2012, 02:50 PM) and I bet you hate to be told to do 30mph...... Not at all mate. It's one thing to have general laws applied to the road but to be told on the news to expect a heatwave and to put suncream on is like being 40 and having your Mummy make sure that your lunch is packed for work.

Only if Mummy was wearing rubber gloves, paid attention to food labels and sell by dates and did so in an acceptable environment. Creating these rules all makes work for the working class to do!!

It made you think - which is the general idea.

That bit with the bloke standing in front of a map telling you to expect a heatwave isn't the news, it's called the weather.
