(Warning for sensitive souls; not Newbury related, but could be one day!)

This story is bizarre, and says not a lot for TESCO customer service, regards how they treated this customer complaint:

It didn’t make any sense. I’ve run my own successful businesses for 22 years, and I own my own house. Why would I want to scam Tesco out of a £470 iPad? I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through what my family and I have.’

But does his Nan have a dog that can do a backflip?

Tesco et al. have this sort of thing happen all the time. I'm not sure what else they should have done at the time.

Remarkable coincidence that it was registered in his name albeit in Wales. What are the chances of replacing the contents of a box with clay and then choosing the name of the person who purchase that box when registering the original product.

No wonder the police were involved.

A little more information would be helpful.

What is known about the Duplicate individual? Have they been traced, part of a gang or what?

Anyway, if he really feels agrieved he has a civil action certainly against Tesco and possibly the Police where he might be in line for a few quid. I'm sure our learned friends will be only to happy to help.

He's probably got waiting a decent holiday.

eurgh... look at that godawful settee cover.... and he's got shifty looking eyes and is probably hiding a tattoo......

This sort of thing is happening all the time (although using a lump of Play-Doh is a new one rolleyes.gif )

Geezer buys item, sells item on eBay or flogs it to a mate down the boozer and strops into Sainsco the following day claiming to have been sold a duff (despite the thing having been shrink wrapped and smart tagged etc etc) Some people make a tidy sum out of it and you're less prone to having your collar felt by Security or the alarm going off as you've actually paid some money up front....

I bet this fella got a very twitchy bum when he was told they can trace the iPad down.... wouldn't be surprised to hear he made a couple of frantic phone calls to the relative he flogged it to.....

He won't try that one again though the cheeky scrote....

I wonder what happened to the iPad last known to be in Wales? Meanwhile, the police and ebay, etc, are simply not interested in following up these things.

"Cor blimey officer. What are the chances of that happening, eh?..... I mean the iPad being nicked in the Tesco warehouse before being brought out to the shelves for me to buy and then the thief who ends up with the goods wot I paid for in all good faith turns out to have my name.... jeesh.... You couldn't make it up"

(Though I suspect he may have done)

bought a Samsung printer in Staples Newbury. Box marked as 'customer return' so printer 50% off. Got box home, opened it to find inside a clearly ancient & wrecked HP printer. Took it back for a full refund, no questions asked.

went to Curry's Newbury to buy a toner cartridge. £85.00. Box was open at one end. Took it to the sales desk, asked them to check it. Inside was a used cartridge. Bloke on the till says 'They are always doing this, swapping used for new cartridges'.
