Does anyone know about Cargo moving or closing down in the Kennet centre?

Over heard a member of stuff talking to a customer, saying they will not be getting any more stock because the are closing.

Cargo is a bit high-brow for Kennet Centre innit? KC is Chavland....

Poundland, 99p Store, that shop where you can buy cheap shoes made of reinforced cardboard that fall apart after four weeks (Shoe Zone), a shop favoured by burglars and Newbury low-life who use extortion to force kids to rob their parents DVD collection or give them their old Playstation games so they can exchange them for cash (CEX), that other shop that caters for people who can't work out what APR means Brighthouse
QUOTE
Weekly payment store Brighthouse has more than doubled its APR from 29.9% to 64.7% to “simplify” customer payments.
. and Peacocks next to TKMaxX,

I see Laura Ashley is on the Kennet Shopping website as one of 'their' shops.... I bet Laura would be spinning in her grave if she knew her curtains were within view of the unwashed masses....

Consider it a honey pot so the well to-do can shop in peace down the posh end of town.

Cargo made an announcement a couple of months back, they'll be 'on line' only in future. Given where we are with retailing at present, the only surprise is that any shop wants to open. Help comes once the new housing development round the station and on the Iceland site are up and occupied, but that's a fair time away.

Is Mag Williams, AKA Newbury.Net's Factfile (and current/former KC manager), still in the land of the living? I think we should be told.

That would be a pity of they closed down as I got all my furniture for the house. A great store and with brilliant items.

You are in luck, they'll still be on line and they'll deliver.

I can see where GMR is coming from. If you are making a big purchase you need to see the stuff first. I think they are missing a trick; what's the betting the online shop will almost disappear in a few months time.

Does that open an interesting concept? Back to the old showroom idea, where certain industries or manufacturers had shops you could see a product range which you could buy where you chose. I can certainly see a 'click and collect' type service operating out of a small shop - even groceries.

I am well stocked up now. But I do like viewing what I buy, especially when the goods are that expensive.
