A man has been killed near A plan in Thatcham. RIP. I have an unconfirmed name but I'm not going to release that.

This is sad news indeed but something that I have seen coming.

I live on Station Road and am shocked at the speed some motorist seem to be doing. On the Roundabout by Urquhart Road car rarely slow down from any direction, In the past two weeks I have seen cars doing in excess of 50 miles per hour, a female driving on the wrong side of the road unaware she was! and another motorist driving with a completly flat front tire.

As for the speed humps along station road these hardly slow motorist to the required 20mph throught this particular section.

"This road was an accident waiting to happen" goes the call. Well I'm sure if you're prepared to wait long enough there will be an accident on every road in UK. Might take a few years but it happens on all roads doesn't it...

As for this tragic death..... Condolences to the family..

Allegedly, the person lying in the road was involved in a fight and was left in the road by his 'assailants'. My girlfriend's brother knows the driver of the car.

I that case we can agree that he was already in the road before the car got there.

When (fatal) collisions, or indeed any fatality is under investigation it is good practice to avoid speculation - or discussing evidence - other than through the 'proper channels'. I suspect that is why the initial posting was edited.
How the person died is for The Coroner to decide. Whether anyone has any criminal liability is for the Crown Prosecution Service (whatever we think of them). Civil liability is another minefield........
Always condolences to those involved, but please be guarded in comments about how it happened etc

Tee Hee

A Coroner is called in when any death was sudden, unexpected, violent or unnatural, occurred during an operation, was due to an industrial disease, or when no doctor has treated the deceased during his or her last illness. BUT a Coroner will only seek to establish the medical cause of death if the cause remains in doubt after a post mortem, then an inquest will be held.

Coroners courts do not come under the 'Sub judice' rules and even then that rule only applies once court proceedings are active.

None of this stops pompous posts though apparently.

I would say that if anyone has any information on this subject, the first place they should go with that information is to the police.

Good one. All this sanctmonius ' my condolences etc'. Why? Pious self-aggrandising poppycock. Pathetic. Some people seem full of their own importance.

It is called empathy, evidently something you would no little about.

No it's not. Empathy would be 'I'm sorry to hear this' or 'his family must be going through agony' even as far as 'if there's anything I can do...let me know'

But what is the motive behind sending condolences on a tiny tiny wee titchy internet forum, unless it's to let the others on there see that you are a really really caring person? Do they think that as soon as the next of kin are informed of the tragedy, they rush to their lap tops and say " I wonder what anonymous posters on Newbury today are saying"? No, of course not. Those condolences are for the rest of us to see. You have to ask why?

Then there is that fool with the 'good practice' nonsense, where's that written then?
and his "Whether anyone has any criminal liability is for the Crown Prosecution Service" line. No it isn't.

I never met Matt, but I know one of his family members and I should think that right now what's being said here is of little interest.

Some people have posted in sympathy; I see nothing wrong in that. It is called empathy. I have lost a friend in a RTA, so I have some idea what it is like.
