They are very keen I'll give them that.
I get a letter addressed to "The Occupier" trying to persuade me to join them nearly every other day! rolleyes.gif

Have been connected sometime - no problems at all.

Me too. Even though the cable doesn't run down the lane to my house.

No problem at all with Virgin, the cable was out in the pavement in front of the house. They came when they said they would, worked with me to install their cable and router, made sure it was working when they left and has been working ever since at their top speed with only one day out due to a cable outage which was sorted within 8 hours. As far as I remember the help line was UK based but I'm not too sure about that.

I'm not impressed with their support, but I don't think that is unusual for consumer ISPs. It is Asian speaking call centre support. Support have failed to send information on request - including request for the starter pack which my dad never got. The installation was shabby and the bloke who in stalled it never come back to finish his work. My dad gets periodic drop-outs. When it is working, it is OK.

After much hassle they tell me they cannot supply due to the cable being the wrong side of the road. Anyone in Newtown Road got it? Still get letters offering it though!

I had a terrible time with them, BT open zone came and installed it, but it never worked. When I phoned them I generally waited an hour on hold before being told that it did work. I did this a few times then canned them.

ANY company with a large customer base will continually have problems with the service they provide, until technology improves.
It's just unlucky when you are the 'victim'.

This thread is a prime example of an unrealistic expectancy. Yes, I agree, you pays yer money and expect the service advertised/paid for. But never be surprised when it goes tits up. It isn't usually for very long anyway.

For me, it is how they deal with it.

That is what most people complain about.

Most "problems" are issues resolved within the house eg interference, sometimes your PC throws a wobbly and won't connect till it's rebooted, etc etc.
Very rarely will the actual ISP go "down", as in if you log onto your router it would say "no IP address".

Not quite so true with my dads cable.

Personally for my use which is probably too much,Virgin has been great. It is expensive but the service has been good.
If a fault occurs at their end I get a small refund.
We used to have TV as well but gave that up. As Timbo said there is only so much you can see.

As for Argos... My daughter (who does exist) worked for Bid TV. And a very old chum is a floor manager there.
So I have skeletons in the closet too.
Anyway I keep being pestered by BT and new fibre optic broadband. It is cheaper but despite all the bumf and phone calls
I am happy with what works.
