Afternoon all,

Being the first one to whinge when I receive poor service, I just wanted to pop a post about Deacon's jewellers in Newbury (at the top of Northbrook Street by the clocktower).

This morning, I bashed my watch pretty hard on my desk at work, and the bezel popped off. I didn't want to have to send the watch back to Omega in Switzerland as I'd have to part with a kidney to fund it, and it was just a case of being able to push the bezel back down hard enough to fix it.

I spoke to Fraser Hart at first who didn't have anybody in store who could help. They referred me to Deacons across the road. Within 5 minutes the bezel had been pressed back on the watch and my watch had been polished. I wasn't charged a dime.

Apparently Deacons have been in Newbury since November. I hadn't heard of them, so thought I'd let you all know that if you are in need of a jewellers, then they are definately worth considering.

Seconded. Nice to hear positive feedback about a local business.

I agree that it is good to hear good feedback about a local business, but on a forum like this how are we to know that the OP does not have a vested interest.
Sorry, just cynical old me I suppose! unsure.gif

I assume someone with a vested interest wouldn't publicise that they had received a free service.

Sure I had a vested interest, getting my £2.5k watch back sitting pretty on my wrist. I can assure you I have no affiliations with any Enterprises in Newbury (unless they require video conferencing- my trade!)
Just good news for once!

I have heard of good words posted online in the aid of publicity. Most of those online review-computermabobs are just that.
Although as a Charity Worker I've never really been involved in marketing.

No doubt if Deacons had closed up shop and left Newbury this (and the other forum) would have quickly reported and discussed in great detail the loss - but when a new outfit opens up in Newbury the silence is deafening from the usual anti Newbury Town/WBC moaners. smile.gif

Well RogerT. and Baffers100. No problem with good service.
Mrs Nothing M had her wedding rings sawn off when she became very ill.
A short period after,we went to a local jewellery store.
It was a £100.00 for each)
(I had suggested a blowtorch to repair the damage).

Mrs Nothing Much didn't make it .

So I gave them to Miss Nothing Much she got them fixed in Hatton Garden for a tenner apiece.
Tourmaline stone bought in the Kings Road.In 1974. It is nice to see them again. On her fingers.

It's a Constellation with a mother of pearl face and diamond hour markers (because I like shiny things!)

I want to start collecting a few old ones but it's an expensive hobby!

Who's that then?? blink.gif
If you mean me please point out at which juncture I was moaning.
That is MOANING and not just pointing out a simple possibility that has happened on here several times before.

Very nice.
Yes, they are not cheap but there are some good pre-owned and vintage ones available on the web.

Well just to divert as I do. Father worked in Libya in 1963
and refused a Rolex Oyster watch from a client..
I have just looked it up £10,000.00. A bit of a shock.

Someone else got it I expect .

Take care as mentioned. People take watches such as yours in restaurants.
Mabe not parkway. But it does happen.

Poor old dad. he threw the persian carpets back over the garden wall.
Never (being English) took a bribe. I Guess BAE changed things later.

On the subject of time, why someone would wear a timepiece valued at £2.5k is beyond me.
My Nephew had a Thomas the Tank engine watch as a younger child. It would flip up, and display the time digitally. Which in the mid 90's was amazing. His mother said it cost something around £7.49.
He also had a Furby but that didn't tell you the hour or day.

Likewise most of us own one of those mobile telephones. They display the time. Failing that you can call 123 and hear the time told by a celebrity at great personal expense.
