QUOTE (NWNREADER @ Feb 20 2011, 12:16 PM) Maybe it is because they are people, so vary in personality, skills etc? People should not stand for parties at local elections, and electors should vote for the best individual, not any party they tie their thinking to. Overall, I agree with your answer to the first point.
2nd question? I thought they were both answered? Nobody is born a fibber, I guess that is just a skill that some people perfect to help them with their chosen role. As for the other point, I haven't said all of the councillors lie. Some people might fib, but those who do should be dealt with. As for your point in the post, I totally agree that people should be selected on their ability.

QUOTE (Sidney @ Feb 20 2011, 12:24 PM) I think the people of this country should not only vote for their politicians, but vote on key policies as they arise too. No politician seems to have the "balls" or possibly even the power to do anything radical ? Should we be in Europe for example ? There is a thread on here relating to human rights and it's quite obvious what the public opinion is .... but would any political party REALLY deal with it ? If Parliament were to be full of honest people who reflected the wishes of their constituents on all matters - including expenses - it would be an interesting place indeed. Councils likewise. As soon as the Representatives are swayed by another loyalty, or do not take the time to communicate with their electors, then the ideal of democracy breaks down.

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Feb 20 2011, 12:41 PM) I believe that people are born to lie, it is a human instinct. I think it is the motive behind the lie that is more important. Yep, agree with that!!!

QUOTE (NWNREADER @ Feb 20 2011, 11:48 AM) Q 1 Are they born fibbers, or does it happen after election?
Q 2 Is it that only opposition Members are truthful? Q 1 has been addressed, not Q 2

QUOTE (NWNREADER @ Feb 20 2011, 12:48 PM) Q 1 has been addressed, not Q 2 Q2 - Not at all. I've already stated in the last few posts that not all of the elected members have told porkies. The members that I believe to have misled are listed o the other thread. If anyone would like to add to it, please do. All I'm suggesting is that dishonesty is at the heart of the current administration.

All I'm suggesting is that dishonesty is at the heart of the current administration. Add to it? Not challenge? Which of the listed people are on the opposition side? A simple count suggests that very few of the elected members have incurred your wrath by being porkie tellers. Your points would have much greater weight if they were not encumbered with embellishmnets KISS

Couldn't agree more. We claim to be a democracy ...... in fact we stand on the world stage claiming to be a democracy - and by many many countries standards we are ....... but only up to a certain point. How can we possibly know who to vote for, when so many politicians do u-turns and break promises (regardless of their party). So many politicians claimed massive expenses (because the system allowed them to) very very few stood on higher moral ground.

KISS The people who are telling porkies just happen to be executive members. If any of the Lib Dems try to mislead me, I'll happily have a pop at them. Thefact is, the dishonesty appears to be at the heart of the Conservative administration.

QUOTE (Sidney @ Feb 20 2011, 10:55 PM) I just tried to find the origin of that expression and the closest thing I could find was...... " I have a pop up I can't get rid of " To have a pop at someone means to attack them. It's often used when the attack is unprovoked.
