So it looks like a few cm of snow will fall on our heads tomorrow.

Sounds like a good excuse to close the schools and for many a worker to "work from home"

Get to work and get to school. Its only a few flakes. angry.gif

....Its an excuse to skyve. Some I bet are already planning a days 'fun' without even making the effort to try and get to work.

No, it is NOT always an excuse to skyve.

I can achieve a lot more by being at home than in the office. I get far fewer disruptions. I save on petrol and it is a greener alternative to clogging up the roads.
If more people worked from home, then YOU wouldn't have a problem with traffic as much as you may do now.
There really is no need to sit around a table for all meetings, there's such things as video conferencing, instant messaging etc etc etc.

Does your occupation allow for wfh? Mine does, as it is technology based.

If you can work from home why not? Why risk damage to your car or worse, injury, just for the sake of getting somewhere that in the big scheme of things is not that important. People I care about are the ones who pick up the pieces of people who think the world will stop turning if they don't go out and drive in all weathers... when in reality it could have waited.

Nohting wrong with working from home, although you do need to be a very focussed individual. However people seem to literally fall over themselves to try and get time off whenever it snows nowadays. Schools are the worst, they have a responsibility to try and remain open, yet the decision to close, it seems has already been, made by a lot of them.

Perhaps some people are taking the advice of the emergency services, not to travel unless absolutely necessary. Plus schools have a duty of care to their pupils and staff.

Well, I am retired, so can pull up the drawbridge guilt-free, without inconveniencing anyone and pontificate from here smile.gif.

Heeding the weather warnings, I went to Sainsbury's this morning mainly because I was low on milk, plus a couple of other things I needed, to find that most of Newbury had also descended on the place. I'm guessing most other supermarkets were the same. Was it panic, or just being sensible?

No, it was everyone else doing what you were doing.

Well said.

Much of the issue of 'having to go to work' is the company attitude. I could well have worked at home on Christmas eve. But because the rest of my team had book time off,I was told we need visibility. Jeez, the people I deal with are NOT where I work, so I never see them face to face anyway!!
Stupid is as stupid does.

I don't think so, one glance at your alloys might make me go all unnecessary.
