Or, to put it in another way, which town of comparable size and similar proximity to transport links, London etc etc, would you prefer to move to - and why?

Henley Maidenhead or Wokingham. Although Henley is very beautiful it isn't that easy to park there. However it is far nicer to walk around than Newbury and isn't a permanent construction site. Wokingham has a massive ski slope thing and an ice rink. And parking. Same for Maidenhead, you can park and drive around easily. I have only had short (but frequent) visits to these towns so admit that there could be a downside that I don't see.

Maidenhead is apparently even more chavy the Newbury

Is it a minor oversight that one of Newbury's more interesting attractions has been overlooked in this debate ?

Are property prices in Henley and Wokingham on a par? Must admit that Henley is a lovely town but not really sure about coping with the traffic - or the Regatta, also didn't an innocent man get killed in the town centre there one night a couple of years ago by a couple of local blokes? Haslemere is very classy too, but a wee bit expensive. All commuter towns as well, something that Newbury isn't. Any work in Wokingham ? There must be very little in Henley apart from the leisure industry?

Henley has Bill McAlpine in Fawley Court - and I don't recall you inviting me to tour your back garden to look at such delights as his collection of Rolls Royces?

It also depends what you are comparing it with. If you are comparing it with Reading then you are probably right. I would also imagine, going by your statement, that you've never been out of Newbury. wink.gif

Henley's population is 10,000, Newbury's 30,000.

Yes, and just been looking at a Henley estate agent's website - ye gods - £325k for a small three bedroom house. So looks like Wokingham is declared the outright winner?

So please tell us where you think is, then - (in the UK, preferably), or any worldwide choice, I suppose - and tell us what efforts are you are currently making to get there and, if not, why not? laugh.gif
