Does anyone know what the police operation was on Bury's Bank Road yesterday morning? When I drove past, there were several police cars and a mobile unit and they appeared to be videoing something on the common. It didn't appear to be traffic or speeding related.

Any clues? I'm just a bit nosey wink.gif

As a paid up member of the uninitiated I assume that dogging is something akin to rabbiting . In other words local inhabitants doing what comes naturally and having their status quo shattered by the intrusion of an outside element .

How would these police type people like it if a bunch of Jehovah's witnesses gate crash their annual ball .

Actually, I was being facetious laugh.gif because my question was genuine and serious. The presence of that number of officers and vehicles suggested to me that this was more than a 'minor incident' and yet there has been no mention here on the NWN news section. Didn't anyone else see all those police there? - was it a mirage?

As for 'rabbiting' - not sure about Bury's Bank Road but there sure is a lot of it on here.

Are you sure it wasn't traffic related? When I went past there yesterday, one of the police officers was holding a radar like gun thing that he was pointing at cars.

Hi guys,

The police operation was a routine speedcheck.

Speeding in the area had apparently been highlighted as an issue by the Brimpton Neighbourhood Action Group.

As a result, between 11am and 12.15pm, six fines were issued in the 30mph zone, to drivers travelling over 40mph. Two further fines were issued to drivers using a mobile phone while driving and one for a driver not wearing a seatbelt.

Thank you Ben NWN.

If this was only a speedcheck, it does kind of beg the question why they would need two police cars and a very large white trailer/mobile unit and why an officer seemed to be filming something away from the road - as if under a bush?? Perhaps there are some very fast hedgehogs around there? wink.gif

Still, apart from the obvious 'How many policemen/vehicles does it take to carry out a speed-check' joke (in this case, loads!!), I am pleased they were doing the job - it is amazing how some drivers have complete disregard to the 30mph speed limit there. Having encountered ambling cows in the road on numerous occasions, I go very carefully.

Not to mention those idiots who still haven't got the message about using a mobile.

I've hit a couple of wabbits up there.... I do wish they'd enforce 30 limits around schools though rather than this sort of site.. It is abused no doubt, but travelling at 30mph when there is no visible hazard in such a wide open space seems like you're absolutely CRAWLING along!!

Not necessary around St. Barts, where all the mothers in their tanks picking up their kids who've forgotten how to walk virtually block the road.

Until you hit a cow that steps into the road. Generally such collisions are fatal to both parties. Just look at the cows legs are in relations to your front bumper.
