Has anyone estimated how many more gold medals team GB needs to win to go some of the way to compensate for the reserves Mr Brown gave away, ( sorry sold ), on the open market ? wink.gif

As the actual gold content is miniscule, quite a lot I would think. Still, hooray for the boys n girls for doing so well.

Hear Hear.....Shame to learn that the gold content is not up to the mark but ,as in most things ,winning is above value .

Do they get a "bonus" in Britain for winning a medal?

Probably not as much as the footballers do for losing one rolleyes.gif .

After watching all the activities of the games I got to thinking that if I had my time over again which sport I would take up and hopefully be good at. I have never been a great lover of running so that would be out. Always liked the explosive sports, so I think it would be the javelin for me. Just wondered what others would pick and why.

Shot putt.

Came second in Berkshire, aged 17. "I coulda been a contender..."!

How about shooting?

I always liked the javelin. Archery sounds fun. Especially if the French were at the other end...
I could manage a hundred yards or metres . But anything more and after that I became bored.

Despite bulk I was hopeless at chucking cannon balls. Jumping over a pole was a nightmare.
So I hated the winter term when we had to do such things.

In another life of mine I spent many years on fishing boats, deep sea and inshore. At one time we could shoot seals for a bounty. I have shot many 100s over the years and never did like it much, so no, no shooting for me. I know all the olympic shooting is not at live targets but it just does not appeal. One or two humans I would not mind having in my sights though. rolleyes.gif

Calm down NORTHENDER. I hope your walk down the aisle went well with youngest.
I have been writing a "Father of the Bride"speech since Christmas.
As I am bonkers and obscure I will seek help from editors..

Don't know why but I have just been watching on you tube Keith Moon's last days.
Olympian drummer? Or like Ollie Reed. Just a nice bloke.

After failing dismally with the shot putt. I was equally as useless with the discuss.
Shooting a.303 gave me a shock .
Now "Fives Courts" had a certain bit of gentle aggression".

I don't see why other sports shouldn't be added in the future.
Get rid of some and show national sports as well.

There is a historic sport in Spain,...(Not just the bulls). Begins with a P.

Maybe not waterboarding. But that is probably as ancient as the known world.

Actually, it was a bit of a joke on the word "explosive", but I expect you got that. And I wasn't suggesting shooting living things - I was thinking clay pigeon.

I didn't know anything about shooting seals.
ce.
And I know almost everything.

No worries JG. Done a bit of skeet shooting plus wildfowling over the years but do not own any guns any more. When you have sons and son-in-laws in the military who have to face guns in anger constantly they loose their appeal. If not the javalin, archery looks like it is great fun.

I was thinking clay pigeon.

I am sure Heston will have a recipe for that.
Drat... I am too late for the farmers market!

I am repeating myself a bit too much from other places.
So I will go and tackle the firethorn for an hour.
It will win. I will return bloodied.
Still the blackbirds love it come the berry time.

A new sport? Synchronised car parking? (Nul points for that . ce).

Sounds about as sensible as synchronised swimming. I expect it won't be long before darts and snooker are Olympic sports.

I am very pleased that team GB is doing so well. I saw the news tonight and we are third in the table. Brilliant news. We are ahead of every country in the world except China and America. Congratulations team GB. I have been glued to the TV since the Olympics has been on.
