QUOTE (Biker1 @ Sep 30 2009, 12:20 PM) "Freeview set top boxes need retuning after lunchtime today (not before) otherwise viewers may lose certain channels." If I am told this one more time you will all hear an audible scream across Newbury! As opposed to an inaudible one? Sorry Biker1, my turn to be flippant

Am I right to assume you will only be able to get freeview HD if you have a "HD ready" TV?

QUOTE (Bill1 @ Sep 30 2009, 04:25 PM) Am I right to assume you will only be able to get freeview HD if you have a "HD ready" TV? No. You will need a digital tunner which supports MPEG4 and will be called Freeview HD, in other words you'll need to by another one. Having a HD (Freeview not Freesat) ready TV at the moment just means you can plug a HD device into it, i.e. Sky HD, Bluray DVD, PS3's etc...

QUOTE (JeffG @ Sep 30 2009, 07:34 PM) I think you'll find that HD on Freeview is quite a long way off. Freesat is an ideal replacement for Sky+ if you mostly only watch BBC/ITV and are satisfied with their limited HD offering.
Plus, you don't have to pay $ky money each month for the right to record free channels on your PVR. Not that far off....December for first transmissions in London followed by major city roll out in time for the World Cup next year and full coverage by the end of 2012. http://www.freeview.co.uk/_retuneinfo/ (Last section)

Hmm. I'm not so sure: QUOTE The final roll-out schedule of Freeview HD across the UK is currently being finalised, but is expected to be broadly in line with the digital switchover process, starting in December 2009 and concluding in 2012. QUOTE 2008 Border 2009 Granada, West Country and Wales 2010 West, Grampian and Scottish 2011 Central, Anglia and Yorkshire 2012 London, Meridian, Tyne Tees and Ulster 3 years is "quite a long way off".

QUOTE (JeffG @ Sep 30 2009, 10:33 PM) 3 years is "quite a long way off". Some areas of Newbury can get Central, and 2011 is only just over a year away.

I know what he said, your response suggested he'd just need a HD Ready TV, which at the moment is incorrect.
