The biggest question I have, and has not been explained, is why are cyclists banned from using the main gates?

So what have we learned from all this so far?

1. We can't trust politicians, he still lied. We already know this.
2. We can't trust the police, they're liars. We already knew this as well.

I kind of agree with dannyboy based on those two points. This is a bit of a non story really.

Sadly today for most people it is as you say a non story.

For some of us with a little too much memory and age it simply underlines the depths to which this country has sunk. In effect the population believe the politicians and police are unprincipled and corrupt. What is the difference between our Government and Police than those of Countries we so often mock?

I don't think we are sinking, we are just becoming more aware. Although with many of us having the laissez-faire attitude displayed by dannyboy, who can really be surprised. He thinks the police allegedly contriving to humiliate a cabinet minister, knowing that it would likely lead to the sack, is a non story.

I can't imagine this being a 'non story' even ten years ago. Wholly agree, in both avenues, politics and police, corruption happened. In fact two senior members of the last Tory government ended up in Gaol! However, it wasn't glibly accepted as the norm by society in general. The British were once proud of a politically disinterested police, civil and public service members of which wouldn't contrive to humiliate the public, let alone politicians. So I don't disagree with you - but as a Country lets no longer get so sanctimonious about other nations politicians taking bribes, or having demonstrably corrupt police forces.
