Northbrook Street Building Work Options

Does anybody know why, when choosing to knock a whole in Northbrook street, they selected some of the oldest and most historic shop fronts? About 3 door down are some classic 70's buildings that they could have demolised instead.

Its a crime that classic buildings that have lasted 100+ years have to make way for a development that will probably last only 50.

It is a pity they are making such a mess of Newbury now.No wonder shoppers are going elsewhere.I know there has to be progress but Newbury is just being killed and a lot of the hasbeen regulars will not bother to go there again

They've kept the front of at least one shop, how can you not have noticed?

The few shoppers that may have gone elsewhere are doing so because it may be easier for them to do so at the moment. When it becomes easier for them to shop in Newbury again no doubt they'll be back. If they haven't developed any local loyalty for Newbury they're hardly likely to develop it for somewhere else in the short space of time the many improvements are being made.

Richard it will all depend on what type of shops this new development attracts. If it is a Kennet Shopping clone then it will attract no more people to the town.
