Does anybody know why, when choosing to knock a whole in Northbrook street, they selected some of the oldest and most historic shop fronts? About 3 door down are some classic 70's buildings that they could have demolised instead.
Its a crime that classic buildings that have lasted 100+ years have to make way for a development that will probably last only 50. |

If you read the story about this on Newbury Today it explains that the wrecking ball method of demolishing the buildings has not been employed in this instance to protect the listed buildings either side of those being taken down (by hand).

I'm no lawyer but that seems highly unlikely and suggesting it could be illegal. |
