Oh dear! So much for those with a yearning for a return to a 1950s size market. It seems WBCs plan to restore that environment by bringing the bus station back to the Wharf will herald the end of trading because the few stall holders left can't park near their pitches. Still, its a gentle way of gently letting the market pass away without too much effort and thus contributing to the bigger vision. WBC and NTC working together; joined up thinking.

I must be too far removed from the target socio-economic group to fully appreciate the wonderful Newbury Market, as there's very little that would tempt me to part with any cash. One stall must have the world's supply of hoover bags in an age where everyone has bagless vacuum cleaners. What's the point??? laugh.gif laugh.gif (Probably find it's a front for some dodgy dealings and the bags are full of weed.... all happening under our noses) biggrin.gif

There is probably some truth in that; which surely underlines Simon's earlier post. Do we really think what is no more than a parish council administration has the appropriate skill to arrest the obvious decline? Let alone turn it into something that fits the Town Centre's self acclaimed vision. The worst aspect of this is that the Town Council run the market at a financial loss. So it's a pretty poor example of the Tory market forces are best mantra. I suppose if it was worth saving, the expertise in the BID would jump in.

What with the roadworks on the A339 to build the new junction into Faraday ensuring that it now takes an hour to cross Newbury, and it is predicted that this will continue when the junction is actually finished and operating, and WBC doing it's utmost to make it difficult for businesses to operate and for people cost far to much to visit Newbury plus some of the same Councillors sitting on the town council, which is surely a conflict of interest, then moaning about WBC and doing nothing to try to stop them and being totally incompetent in running a small market is it any wonder that local politicians are treated with such contempt. rolleyes.gif
