It is also quite possible that a Cyclist or Motorcylist could pay the ultimate price if they hit a pothole !!!

I agree that cyclist and Motorcyclist pay the ultimate price of potholes. As a keen cyclist and car user myself I have found that there has been no change in the roads and the potholes disappearing. On top of that I didn't even know there was a pothole hotline. Seeing as it is going to disappear I probably won't notice any change, nor, I doubt, will half of the Newbury motor users and cyclists.

It is no good have such a hotline if it wasn't going to be acted upon.

BTW - if you phone, they will claim to have not heard about the pot hole before the call.

It said - in the title - it was dropped. Granted I didn't read beyond that (i.e. the link) but what the heck. This is a forum with plenty of know it all's ready and waiting to correct me or anybody else if we should make a slip into the abyss. At least it keeps them occupied. Look at it as my Christmas present to the pedantic.

Common sense rules for a change. One of the dafter Lib Dem ideas - there is already a number to call to report potholes. What difference would another phone number make? Calling it a 'hotline' wouldn't make the repairs happen any sooner - just wind up those who think it should.

Nothing to do with 'know it alls', just establish some facts before spouting the odds will do.

Exactly; they are quite prepared to ignore calls already, let alone have a hot line to achieve the same result.

I have reported problems on the website - to Streetcare - and achieved the desired outcome. I had no knowledge of a 'Pothole Hotline'.
The ability to report faults remains, without the cost of an (apparently u-used) line.

Agreed, a non story in my view, however, unattended potholes seem to be on the increase.

You want them attended? Volunteers or paid staff?

There will be an increase at the moment as the recent frosts and current rains will rip up the surface.
Report, report, report......

By the same means as before would do; potholes can be dangerous and a failure to repair them properly will mean an even bigger bill later.

You could effectively fill in potholes with some of that excuse for Christmas pudding I was served at the Newbury Hilton the other day!!
